I work in tech, and I’ve never met a single impressive Indian worker, on a visa or based offshore.

I’ve met enough competent ones, but they don’t stand out against anybody else. They’re incredibly entitled, and never seem grateful at getting the chance to live in a much better country, they seem to think it’s their right to live here for some reason.

The entire world gets to prefer to live amongst white folk, except for the white folk.

Granted I’m just a retard sys admin myself, and I’m certainly not a top level engineer at spacex. Maybe it’s different at that level. I doubt it, though. They just want to pay low wages for high skilled workers.

It's the same kind of reasoning the EU and every other developed country uses to excuse similar schemes. "To compete with our rivals and not fall behind on the world stage!"

The first problem with that is the migrants don't actually add anything material in their own right. Their value is comparative: they're cheaper and more numerous than what we currently have, thus importing them will help to maintain and expand companies' competitive edge (and profits).

That leads into the second problem, which is that nobody really cares if we fall behind on China or whatever. That's the flipside of turning what used to be a nation into a LLC. Perhaps jingoistic phrasing like that would've been persuasive if it didn't essentially involve a fight between entities that might be distrusted more by their own citizenry than that of the rival. It's the first time in history that victory in a 'conflict' doesn't bring with it any spoils, just higher annual revenue for the corporation which it will not share. It's ludicrous to expect the average person to be emotionally invested in this when it's becoming exponentially harder to acquire the basic necessities of life.

Ultimately Elon's screed here just a pathetically thin smokescreen for more short-sighted corporate reasoning that's becoming increasingly out of touch, in inverse proportion to its hold on society. The dream of infinite growth is proving itself to be a farce in the eyes of both right and left, and global demographics show that even the highly dubious strategy of just importing more humans is mathematically impossible in the long run. What we really need is a paradigm shift now that we have the ability to act upon it, not a continuation of the current path that's sure to doom everyone like Musk's proposing.
