It's kind of cool when the demo is better, and you can blithely dismiss the rest of the catalog. I love doing that to Metallica fans. "Eh, yeah, the demo was great, but it's been all downhill from there".

Well, that isn't true with Bungle. Disco Volante and California are equally great and very different. I am a huge Bungle fan and was very let down they reunited with Scott Ian and Dave Lambardo to rerecord their first demo and tour for years with it with only a hint of playing stuff of their first album.

That said this is how I feel about the band Emperor. Their demos are top tier.

It's not true of Metallica either, but it's a lot of fun to troll their fans. I've always enjoyed Mike Patton, and "Angel Dust" is one of my all-time favs, but I never got into Bungle that much. Fantomas, either. Maybe I need to revisit those records again.
