Rush and Pink Floyd are shit imposter prog bands. If you're heading into progressive rock and want coherent, well-structured songs instead of weird novelty hipster music you should go with King Crimson, Yes, Gentle Giant and early Genesis.
Very true.
Everything you need to know about prog can be covered in 9 records.

Yes
- The Yes Album
- Fragile
- Close to the Edge

King Crimson
- Larks' Tongues and Aspic
- Starless and Bible Black
- Red

Genesis
- Selling England by the Pound
- Nursery Cryme
- Foxtrot

Also, I've always felt that the wrong Pink Floyd records get all the attention.

- Atom Heart Mother
- Animals
- Meddle
- The Final Cut

Far superior to all the other boomer shit.

I would add The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway to the Genesis albums.

Tip if you haven't seen it. This guy illustrated the whole album.
