WWAW saving for the future?

Ok well if you save more then you can give even more. And if you save enough that you can retire early then you can give your time, too. Or more of it if you already do.

All of the money I save is earmarked for helping others in rainy days, because my family are not saving, or for my own if I get ill or something.

I help people with my money and time when they need it, and it’s part of my non negotiables, if someone I know asks for help, they’ll get it.

The only thing that I would like to do is visit beautiful vast landscapes, I love that shit. I want to see nature in all its desolate glory, but when the fuck am I gonna get time to do that? And why would it be better to do it when I’m young as opposed to older?

I have absolutely zero desire to visit “fun” places across the globe and waste all my money on them. They’re literally all run down shitholes full of Africans and Arab rapists now. All of Europe and English speaking countries are. I don’t want to go to Thailand and fuck kids, the scenery is nice but it’s better across the west anyway without the harrowing poverty and child prostitution for Paul Weimer’s.

I don’t want to visit the Middle East or Asia for obvious reasons.

I don’t want to chase women and getting laid, I’ve done that enough to realise it’s hollow, pointless and fleeting.

I’m seriously struggling to think of a single thing this guy is alluding to.
You make a lot of assumptions, like that I'm specifically recommending that you travel. Or that I'm suggesting you blow everything. I'm saying - in general and not just to you - to spend your fun money when you're young because when you're old your ceiling is low. Dont ask me how you should spend, I'm not saying how, just when.

There you go, see, I'm not even talking about you. I'm talking about splurging when you're old being pointless.

I’m 34 and my fun money brings more joy being kept in reserve if I ever need anything. There’s nothing more fun at 34 than saying “oh well” and paying for your car repairs in cash from your savings when you have car trouble - or whatever the fuck it is, instead of “oh man, how am I gonna get to work?!?!” like I would have when I was 23 spending everything for quick pleasure.

If you can tell me what I could spend it on, I’m all ears.

It's actually an adventure being far below the poverty line. Every day is a challenge and every day you meet new people. It's sort of exciting. And if worst comes to worse, meh. Hospital is always open.

This is why you can’t help homeless people. You can give them houses and jobs and rehab but they hate it and want to just do nothing and take drugs.

no, No, NO! Not investing till I was 36 is the biggest regret of my life. If I started putting money in the market 15 years ago, i would have brokerage account with over a million already. And no, you don't need to be picking stocks. Couple low cost etfs/index funds is all you need. Once you start making money you will do everything you can to not go back to the poor house.

I've spent the last year watching financial YouTube videos in order to half ass educate myself. Information I wish I had after high school. If you don't care about the future, why even live right now? /rant over

I was completely sober until the government gave me money. I was homeless for months. Didn't touch a drink or a drug. Only the occasional coffee.

See that was my old shitty mindset. You have to weigh the risk of running out of money against the risk of regret (running out of time).

The car one is a great example - its living not to die. Why waste money on a nice new car when you can be worried about saving in case the old one breaks down? That was how I used to think. But it turns out that money is not that sacred. A smart man will always make money.

You said you wanted to visit beautiful landscapes. You probably plan on doing that in the distant future. But you dont consider that you might be too old to travel like that. Maybe the places you wanted to go are now too far of a hike. Maybe your wife doesnt want to go, or cant. Maybe you can't because you're caring for your mother or children.

Or what if you do go and you love it? It changes your life but it's too late to have any meaning. I'm sure you'll be glad you waited.

It depends what you value.

I’d be way more unhappy and anxious if I started doing a new age “just do it now and say YES” thing.

I’ve done that and I didn’t think it was worth it.

No offense. I just pictured the (feather) Indians pushing themselves around in stolen hospital wheelchairs down the sidewalks in Calgary.

buying stuff doesn’t excite me.
Don't talk like that, you just need another one of these.
