My friends and i did the dark side of the moon matched up with the Wizard of Oz. And yeah, it matches up exactly. We were completely sober too. :image_4848_m:

I love it. I think Floyd has better albums musically (Animals, Dark Side), but the concept and execution of The Wall makes it all-timer for me. The live performances from 80-81 are even better than the album. The movie is good too, I like that there's some musical differences in it as well, makes it unique.

I read Roger Waters wanted to get The Beach Boys do back up vocals on “Waiting For The Worms” and the band had agreed but only one member - Bruce Johnston - showed up. Also Tennille of Captain & Tennille did back up on a couple tracks.

I laugh at them because they're all the same.

I skipped the Pink Floyd phase. I know a bit of the Division Bell album, but anyone who recommended The Wall was an unemployed weed smoker to whom time meant nothing. I'm going places in life, bucko.
I liked Division Bell.

Pulse is a pretty solid live performance too.

It's pompous, self-indulgent, and even whiny in parts, but it's still an epic album. Like a lot of other classic bands of that era, they cranked out a string of excellent records in a six, seven year span. Nowadays, it takes bands seven years to throw together one mediocre album.

That's a good point.

The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and Animals are all concept albums, which in the age of streaming is a dead, foreign concept.

Musically we are back to the Payola era, where every "artist" lives and dies on the strength of their latest single, and much of that is through undue influence and bribery. The idea of an entire album - the anticipation of and immersion into one - is lost on today's younger people.

And they were all meticulously produced and performed at an extremely high level, too. They were sonically interesting, not just some momo mumbling like a retard over bass drops. They were records made to be listened to, not background noise to hand-dance and jiggle your ass fat to. They took it seriously, perhaps too much so at times, but still.

And it's kind of interesting how back then, these huge rock stars not only weren't gloating and posturing about all the wealth and cool shit they had, but were openly disdainful of that whole lifestyle, and complained about it constantly. The Wall is an entire concept album about how fame and stardom broke Roger Water's brain. And today, every face-tattooed one-hit wonder is yammering about fat stacks, smoking niggers and Cartier.

I purposely don't look at any behind the scenes stuff of Pink Floyd because I want to completely separate the art from the artist on things I like, but didn't a really bad acid trip break his brain? My friend told me that's what the end of Dark Side of the Moon was about... but we were tripping at the time so maybe he was just trying to scare me.

That was Syd Barrett. He was a founding member, but they kicked him out when he went crazy. Wish You Were Here was largely about him.
