Li-ion batteries can explode due to fault conditions but this is obviously something more coordinated, probably batteries being swapped-out for triggerable ones containing a small amount of explosive, there's often a digital line to the battery BMS circuit which could be used, or even a simple thermal fuse which would adequately heat-up during overcurrent conditions (which could be effected digitally)Haha Holee shit, its hand held radios exploding now...Next the toasters will start popping off.
