Mayor's Dead - Their very first firing, and the news story that got them national press. Catapulted them to a career in radio.
55 Gallon Drum - Ope flexing his Islamic inner self. This contest was a short conversation away from being promoted as a public stoning.
Homeless Shopping Spree - Opie taking a little inspiration from the Tom Green with ideas to fuck with people in public. But you use the homeless charity as shield from criticism.
Sex For Sam - It got them fired, but ultimately it cemented their legacy as shock jocks.
Cake Stomp - Still going viral every few years, and it was a throwaway last minute decision that came out of nowhere.

Alright, let's say Opie was retarded and did all this by accident... At the very least, you STILL owe that retard props for "accidentally" improving your life by every single metric. Yeah, it was ALL by accident. Podcasting would benefit from someone with a spine who is willing to break an old lady's guitar, take the heat, and turn it into press.

Also taking callers is part of the fucking job. Who came up with "Wrestler Death Clock" and pushed for Sam to come into the studio and report the often violent and destructive deaths of so many young wrestlers. Anthony's knowledge of wrestlers' deaths for that bit came from Opie finding the comedy in dead wrestlers and Sam being more than willing to bring in the stories and articles.

R&F and O&A callers on WNEW and WJFK were handled perfectly. It wasn't until the whole country could call them and unload middle american nonsense wrecking it for everyone.

The basic humor of the show was to be as dark or absurd as possible. Opie did that better than anyone. By the end of the show Norton and Anthony were just taking the show into the gayest directions possible for each other. Mudslide with your fist. The Gay Off Contest. And so on.

There were no setups or punchlines for the Conor and Laci Peterson stuff. It was just brutal mockery of their deaths. Including everything from sound drops to listener song parodies. And callers making their own jokes and lines. There was no format. It was a free for all of brutal and insane jokes and often bombs.

Like when the news anchors would lists local birthdays. And you'd get birthdays for Conor Peterson or Lyle Chipperson. The joke was the sheer absurdity of some news reader wishing Uncle Paul and his favorite nieces and nephews a happy birthday. Not some lame 'setup and punchline' formula style of joking.
