WWAW being addicted to smoking.

I’ve quit many times over the years, sometimes for weeks, sometimes for over a year but I always seem to come back to it. The last year or so though it’s gotten really bad where I if I even have one cigarette I spend the next 2 - 3 weeks coughing so hard it keeps me up at night. I probably have emphysema or some shit. In any case that has been enough incentive for me to stop just because even one cigarette now is enough to cause me weeks of regret and sleepless nights. For all the fawkin Harry haters out there tho smoking tobacco in moderation does have a number of positive effects including increased testosterone, decreased appetite and increasing the length and girth of your member.

I may have made that last one up but hey, if it seems to have worked pretty well for Don Draper

Just fucking throw the pack out!

Seriously though, with cigarettes the addiction is 20% physical and 80% psychological.

I had my first smoke at 15, but didn't really get hooked until a couple of years later. Then I was a pack a day man until 35, more if I was out and drinking. If I could quit, fucking anyone can.

I never tried to quit before I did, but when I did, I went all in. Had personal family reasons that motivated but really was just sick of it. I think a person needs to get to that point to successfully stop.

I know that I'll never smoke again. Not because I'm "so strong" or some shit like that. Just that I turned on a switch in my brain that acknowledged something I always knew was true. That there's no real value in it - taking risks, booze, sex, exercise, food, drugs etc can all give you a buzz that you can't get without them - any buzz smoking gives you is literally down to nicotine, but is more due to the comfort and routine derived from it (I need a cigarette with coffee/after a meal/after sex/with a drink etc.)

It's bullshit though. Those things are just as good without the cigarette afterwards, and when you start to get truly disgusted by the smell of a cigarette (and for me at least, this was at least initially a self-conditioning thing - i.e. talking myself into believing it was disgusting - until it actually was) and pity the poor bastards who brave the rain, sleet and wind of the winter to go outside the restaurant or bar to get their fix - then the battle is half won.

It's pretty pointless considering the downsides. The buzz/high barely lasts or does anything. The idea of a cigarette is a lot better than the reality.
Yeah that's why they are pushed so heavily on society. Short buzz. Constant urge to fix and smoke again. Insanely high cost to buy. Chemically addictive. Associated with other vices like drinking, bars, gambling, casinos, and so on. The ideal smoker is the chain smoker who lives from cigarette to cigarette or cigar to cigar.

Health scare and the gum worked for me. Probably more so the health scare. When you're a heavy smoker like I was for the length of time I was, that's about the only thing that's gonna do it. But the gum worked in reducing cravings. Eventually I just stopped chewing the gum and was fine. Nowadays I'll chew a toothpick if I'm hanging around smokers drinking.

I smoked as much for about the same amount of time, but never say never. I haven't smoked in years, but I still have a pack in my truck from when I was a smoker. Probably would taste like shit from age and sitting in a hot truck now, but if I'm ever terminally ill or in a serious car wreck, I'm lighting up a smoke.

I quit cold turkey 5 years ago this month. The first month is the hardest. Don't go out drinking for the first six months and you should be OK.
Good advice!

People generally know I'm a bit of a drugger-lover... but at times i've quit everything, booze & the lot... but there's nothing draws me back like the deliciously caustic smoke of that leafy tube.

I've occasionally vape at times but there's a psychopharmacological reason behind cigs': burned tobacco smoke actual contains a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor - similar to old-skool antidepressants & independent from nicotine, so some people are potentially self-medicating, in fact the antidepressant Wellbutrin(bupropion) was re-purposed as Zyban for smoking cessation... personally I'd go for one of the more nootropic / lesser side-effect options like 'Moclobemide' or the Russian 'Pirlindole', 2 of the few antidepressants which aren't just dumb-dumb limpdick pills.

I still love my cigs, but they're literally more harmful than smoking (actually vaping) heroin... It's a shocking sounding statement due to societal opinion, but the data backs it up. For the record, I recommend neither.

Everyone's different, innit. I've never shot anything because needles skeeve me out, but I've had the kind of coke connects that have put regular cocaine to shame. Smoked opium a couple of times and grew up in London in the late 90s/early 2000s enough to know decent mudma.

Having said that, booze, smoking punk, Charlie, mdma, acid, brown etc, none of it was as much of a problem as quitting cocksucking ciggies

“Gimme the pack” is an underrated Colin line mimicking Long Island guido uncles.
I dipped for 15 years and quit over night when I discovered Zyn pouches. Now I'm addicted to these fuckers. They're just so damn satisfying.
On! Is better because they come in 8mg and are usually 40 pouches for $5 after tax. I stopped because I felt like a junkie shoving 5 at a time in my upper lip long after I quit smoking or vaping.
