You can come to terms with a terrible accident and hopefully move past it. Being Patrick would be neverending self inflicted torture. I would like to experience being Patrick for a day though. I really want to be able to wrap my mind around his thought processes. I know they are completely fucked, but the true extent is an unknowable mystery.
