My wife wants to talk about work all evening when I get home. She wants to tell me about office drama, what her friends did / said, etc. She and her friends also have a group chat so they talk all night.

I barely care about my job while I am on the clock, I am definitely not going to talk about it off the clock.

I work in the Oil industry, in the corporate HQ, and my teams are usually 80% or higher men. It’s pretty great, and because of the environment, it selects for women who will actually do their fucking jobs.

There are competent women who are just as smart and reliable as men, and belong in the workplace…. But I fully believe those women are drawn to male-centric careers where there is less pressure from other women to treat a Fortune 500 company like the fucking high school cafeteria.

That all being said: I’ve been to three field offices several times, and I’ve never met a woman at any of them who wasn’t the receptionist. I’ve easily met 100 dudes from pumpers to foremen and not one woman among them.

My experience of these “white working class” dudes in lifted trucks with dip in their lips?

Holy shit do those totally-badass-alpha-males gossip and back-talk like teenage girls. These are jobs which don’t require college education, and any time I ride around with a couple of them in the truck, I hear all their grievances against one of the guys who is in a different truck.

It’s cringe as fuck.

I work in technical fields and sometimes with IT people.

Two of the best I’ve ever worked with were women. But they were the absolute exception to the rule. And bending society towards the exception to the rules has been a disaster.
