Why did the Sopranos have New Jersey mobsters in 2003 wearing suits every day?

Seems a bit far fetched, and you can look at surveillance photos from that time era and they wore shitty normal street clothes like everyone else. (Exceptions obviously for weddings/funerals just like normal people.)

I think the ladies in the wardrobe department just enjoyed doing it. Mobsters back in the day wore suits every day, but so did every office worker so it blended in. Mobsters just went for more ostentacious cuts.

Tony was always dressed like he was going to Easter Brunch at a nice country club on random afternoons. Even Christopher as a young associate was always in a jacket, at least.

They wear track suits and shit but they are also in suits constantly when it doesn't make sense. Hanging out in the strip club in full suits with pocket squares, etc.

Although I suppose the more un-realistic aspect is them constantly committing reckless murders on the streets of NY /NJ in the 2000s and not getting caught, but the fashion part tripped me up :image_9253:

Chris and Paulie murdering the waiter in A.C and not even sweating it for a day seemed particularly egregious. They'd have been arrested within a week

Tony wears suits just because he's a lower upper class guy, same reason businessmen wear suits. In fact, most of the scenes involving suits are during some sort of " business " meeting or formal event

Chris wears suits because that's what he saw in The Godfather, he's a young poser trying to fit the look.

A guy like Sil wears suits because he's trying to replicate the old school mafia look and he's a tacky sleezebag

Overall, I never took the suit wearing in the Sopranos as unusual

Chris is always wearing 90s/2000s wop/wigger stuff, Tony has his polos and bowling shirts, Sil does too, Paulie has his leisure clothing.
" They wear suits at the strip club "
Normally because someones getting out of prison or its a party, in most Bing scenes they're dressed casual

At non formal events I can only picture them in Reebok track suits. I think they only wore regular suits at appropriate places. Except for Sil

The Big Cheese who ran Boston's North End was too fat to wear suits but still made an effort

Actually nevermind. He was just big & fat.

Poor bastard. Imagine trying to go on the lam and you're too slow to get away and too fat to hide anywhere. Everyone in the North End was like "Oh look, there he goes, there goes the big fat mafia guy. Wow. So fat."

You think mobsters in 2005 would don a suit when someone gets released from jail? Or are attending a party at a strip club? Of course not, but in the show they do. That's exactly my point

This is Joey Merlino getting released from prison 3 years ago. Italians with mob ties like to wear suits and prance. This isnt a far fetched concept

A court appearance is different than attending a party at a strip club after release, sir.
Some of the old school mobsters would sear suits and ties on yachts or attending a Yankees game. It was considered against the rules to appear in public or at a gathering not dressed properly. Then guys like Gotti started wearing flamboyant suits and bright colors and dressing like that one faggot NBA announcer.
