When I went down to Georgia in the early oughts the contrast between the two (northern blacks versus southern blacks) was astounding! Down south very polite and courteous while up north it was as if slavery was a northern thing and still active! Two entirely different perspectives. In the south I sensed no hostility towards my white skin even as a northerner yankee by either southern whites or blacks.

One wonders how non slavery states have more hostile "African Americans" than actual post slave states?! Those "progressive liberals" of the Northern states really put a mind fuck on those fleeing north after emancipation. Those progressive liberals also like to forget that only 11 out of the 34 states that existed before the civil war never had slavery. More than a generation of school kids have been indoctrinated to think that only the South ever had slavery and that only America ever had slavery. It is apropos that, along with Kentucky, Joe "Put Y'all Back in Chains" Biden's home of Delaware was the last state to have slavery.
