Isn't that movie like 4 hours? It's the only reason I haven't watched it yet.

I think the longest movie I watched was Until the End of the World which was just 10 min shy of 5 hours and I did that in one sitting. Pretty good movie. I also watched Berlin Alexanderplatz but I don't count that since I didn't watch it all in one sitting. Same goes for Les Vampires too.Jesus, "Greed" was what, 8 hours? And that cut is lost.
I admit that I enjoyed the Zack Snyder Justice League film - sue me, it's different just enough from the average capeshit - but four hours is a lot in one sitting. That's why they used to have intermissions.
5 hours? That's time better spent having sex, and water breaks. And a sandwich. With a scotch and ginger beer. And more sex.
That's a good idea...

Goddamn is this ever the right fucking answer.Everything he did after Jackie Brown.
Santantango, nigga. I know you appreciate some Bela Tarr.I think the longest movie I watched was Until the End of the World which was just 10 min shy of 5 hours and I did that in one sitting. Was he the greatest ever though? He was always pretty one note if you think about it - psychos, morons or some combination of the two usually. Charmless, not funny, can't act opposite a woman without looking like he wants to belt her, can't really do accents etc. I'd say someone like Gene Hackman was way better, certainly in terms of range.Santantango, nigga. To answer the OP there are just too many, sadly. New Years Eve is astonishingly bad. Little Fockers, Righteous Kill... but Dirty Grandma might be the worst just because it’s so embarrassing for a guy who was the greatest ever to be doing that shit.
A point in his favor, I'd say.can't act opposite a woman without looking like he wants to belt her
For me, in his prime, he was clearly the greatest ever. He’s arguably been surpassed now but a jack of all trades isn’t the best for me. Someone who does a couple of things on a level nobody else in that era or previously could touch will always surpass being able to do everything pretty well. Was he the greatest ever though? Each to their own. I love him in Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and a few of those others. He was so raw and right for Johnny Boy in Mean Streets you can imagine audiences at the time who hadn't seen him before would've thought they'd literally cast some punk off the street. I'd throw Goodfellas and Casino in there. Only one I haven't seen is Brazil. For me, in his prime, he was clearly the greatest ever. I absolutely love Hackman and agree he was fantastic but he has nothing in his oeuvre that can compare with Taxi Driver or Raging Bull. That’s not even getting into the King of Comedy, Godfather II, Once Upon a Time in America, The Deer Hunter, Mean Streets, Brazil, Midnight Run, etc etc.
Yeah, I don’t disagree with any of that. Hackman was amazing. Unforgiven and The Conversation are two of my all-time favorite movies and he was fantastic in all of the Wes Anderson stuff he did too. These are fine margins we’re talking about but De Niro set new standards for acting that elevated what Brando did and weren’t matched until the likes of Phoenix and DiCaprio hit their peak. There’s a reason most actors will say he was the best. I absolutely do see your point though. Each to their own. I love him in Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and a few of those others. Maybe it's partly the bad taste left in the mouth from some of the absolute dreck he's made in the last 20 something years. Almost sullied his previous high points for me.
I'd argue that Hackman in Unforgiven and The Conversation is up there with anything. He also had the knack of being great in even mediocre films. Take something like The Firm or Get Shorty. He completely steals the show without being hammy or mugging. He just acts rings round and almost "out-charismas" movie stars like Cruise or Travolta in them.
Well listen to you, Mr. Fancy Pants.I absolutely love Hackman and agree he was fantastic but he has nothing in his oeuvre that can compare with Taxi Driver or Raging Bull.
Not just a hat rack, my dude.Well listen to you, Mr. Fancy Pants.
