Its stupid. The President at one time did control interest rates and it was a disaster. (Read about it a while ago - Can’t remember who it was) but it was either LBJ or Nixon who pressured their fed chair to keep interest rates low so they could win reelection. Doing this meant inflation spiraled out of control, and the minute they won they started raising the rates. I don’t know if them being completely independent is the best idea, but the President controlling them isn’t either (and we have evidence of that)

he had solid policies written for him on his site when he ran in 2016, but it was obvious he had no fucking idea what any of them were. i think it was Chris Wallace who asked him during one of the debates about his position on H1B visas and had to correct Trump on what his own website said. his team removed it shortly after
probably why his presidency was underwhelming. he can say the right things at times but has no way of synthesizing any of it into actual policies
