CBS failed because of mp3 players, podcasts, streaming, and satellite radio. End of story. No one listens to terrestrial anymore. Rogan would never do terrestrial. That was the point you idiot. CBS Radio was never going to do anything other than slowly die once the mp3 player became a popular device. And now that phones can play podcasts and audio files almost no one listens to AM or FM anymore.

Stop saying "all their hardcore listeners were on XM". My dad was a hardcore listener. Close friends of mine who were fans. These people started listening again with the CBS deal. It's not like they signed to CBS and immediately failed. They started strong and the people who didn't have XM were tuning in. This led to additional markets and a multi-city comedy tour.

Then the show started to suck. Cat noises and Obama. Your "hardcores" bailed as it simply wasn't the same show they had remembered it being. Markets starting falling off and they lost a huge market, Philly. Once the ratings swapped to PPM, they weren't even breaking the top 10 in morning drive.

I can back up what I say. Can you? Show me any shred of proof you have that CBS failed because millions upon millions of people subbed to XM. It's just weird you make shit up and spit it out as facts. Truly a bizarre trait.

I'm listening to these old clips of them losing Philly and FreeFM as a whole and it's fascinating. Opie feeling his dreams slowly slip through his fingers. He sounds like a girl that got ghosted, we haven't heard anything so that's good right? I'm just going to assume we're good until I hear otherwise.

Remember in 1999, when WNEW in NYC dumped the "Where Rock Lives" format, and went to an all-talk format anchored by O&A? By 2002, WNEW was dead in the water, then Sex For Sam torpedoed it. What a debacle that was.

WNEW's talk rebrand was highly successful and only ended because of backlash. You made it sound like WNEW was dead because nobody was listening. WNEW died because they fired and alienated their only successful shows.

I do remember Ron and Fez being moderately popular, but the rest of the station minus O&A was a mess. It was a long time ago, though. I do remember how in 2002, Howard was foundering, and ripe for a beating, but they fucked it all up. Trying to out-Howard with the sex stuff was probably not a great idea.

The other WNEW jocks were fodder for O&A and R&F to interact with. The sex stuff was not necessarily to take on Howard. It was what American men were doing at the time, with the Man Show, Spike TV, everything male oriented was about chugging beer and girls who looked like barbie dolls lezzing out.

CBS paid them to sit out the rest of their contract because they didn't want them on another station. Because they were the top show.

XM years also showed that O&A were too hardcore for even satellite. As they were suspended and nearly fired from XM multiple times. And were forbidden from doing stuff like Homeless Shopping Spree or Assault on the Media. The merger forcing the show to be toned down probably saved O&A from being fired for another few years.

The "show we can't talk about" was a month into their XM debut.

No company could save O&A from getting talked to by the feds.

Splitting the show on two formats was idiotic and failed.

Too many XM listeners would have complained that the entire show was FCC-compliant if they did the FM deals for the sake of promoting the show.
