This is another technical masterpiece of faggot 80s dance pop. Modern recording techniques were being invented in the mixes of these butt fucking, coke anthems. Just the idea that you can fatten a mix up with background shit that is barely able to be heard/perceived was an alien concept a decade before this.

Take a song like Love My Way. There's not a lot there, but in production they layered in all theses synth pads to prop up a composition that without it is really empty without changing the composition itself. That's par-for-the-course in production today, but non existent in the 70s.
