It was actually Bob Iger that demanded they reveal the killer, he said in his recent autobiography that he regrets that.
Because of pressure from the audience.

. I hated most of the Dougie storyline. Same joke over and over again. The music performances at the end were unnecessary to me.
I see what you’re saying but I just didn’t find that storyline enjoyable at all. The original series did the balance better in my opinion.I think that was the point. The audience wants death, violence, action and Dougie is love, goodness, luck. Twin Peaks has always been about balance. Laura Palmer is a wonderful person who does awful things etc.
ME: THANK YOU!Not sure. I think the Sopranos was much more consistently entertaining (as someone who doesn’t like horror in general) and less “challenging” but Twin Peaks was far more influential. I think David Chase worked on the show Northern Exposure before creating the Sopranos which was apparently heavily inspired by Twin Peaks.
I’m going to be the contrarian here and say I thought the Return was extremely overrated and only got praise because there hadn’t been a good new show in a while and the high reputation of the original run. Way too long and repetitive to me. I hated most of the Dougie storyline. Same joke over and over again. The music performances at the end were unnecessary to me.
The constant product placement broke the immersion and made it feel like any other show and not something made by David Lynch. Also I thought the tone was too dark compared to the original show and I felt like Lynch was testing the patience of the viewers too much. I like the little optimistic moments in the original show that were mostly absent in the return besides a couple of tiny moments.

Yeah I think the Return was very smart in that way. I still can’t help but feel Lynch became jaded with the world and decided to take out his frustrations with it using the show though. I definitely felt like he was trying to punish people at some points. I get that he was trying to be anti-nostalgia but I just didn’t think it was that entertaining. Would’ve been better as a movie tbhwy. To me, the return addresses this very thing. That’s what the whole Audrey thing was, she was the star of the first twin peaks again in that dance, then realises the show is dead and it’s now darker and modern and nobody cares about her or that shows balance any more, they want drama and action and violence.

I agree too but if he hates it so much why would he make the Return the way it was? In the original series you can tell he was influenced by soap operas and obviously respected television as an artistic medium at that time. Wouldn’t be surprised if he never actually wanted to make the Return in the first place but just got too good of a deal to turn down and hadn’t made anything in a while.I think Lynch hates modern media, selling fear and violence etc and spreading bullshit. I agree with him completely.
I've only saw The Return once but I agree that the tone was just off. I didn't like Audrey me-so-Horney's storyline either. Still has one of the best scenes of all time though, the payoff was brilliant. Not sure.
