I just realized a humorous aspect that I didn't notice since I didn't really follow the "scandal." It was an Arabian Nights party and he was ostensibly trying to do an Aladdin type costume. He's a swarthy Frenchman and Aladdin isn't that dark, so he could have just worn the outfit

Instead he went out of his way to smear black shoe polish all over his face as if he were cosplaying Idi Amin. He just really, really wanted to do blackface even though the costume didn't require it. Fucking Ribs

If you read the original version from 1001 Arabian Nights Aladdin is from China which makes absolutely no sense.

Actually if I remember correctly the original story says he's a peasant from somewhere in China without specifying.
Im speaking about the actual lore...(Alf layl waa layla..."a thousand and one nights" was lore compiled in Baghdad, in Arabic...translated into English as the "Arabian Nights" and introduced the non-arabic world to characters like Aladdin who was Uyghur, Sindbad who was a Sindhi (Pakistani today) living in Basra Iraq, Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves who was Persian, etc etc)

The actor David Mitchell once said "if I knew how I know everything I know I'd only have room to know half as many things". Which sounds pretentious on the surface but I agree with.

"folk tales" lol...these were literate societies. She translated and embellished (with racism ofcourse).
Were they literate? Why are the most respected Mohammedans those who can recite the Quran by heart? You're just lying.
