The TRUTH re: Howard Stern Vs. Opie & Anthony

Still spreading the O&A virus
By far the thinnest-skinned one too. Jackie, Gary, Robin, John...everyone took heaps and heaps of abuse, but as soon as someone bagged on Fred, he'd flip out, get really nasty, then threaten to leave or quit.
Fred still took some of the biggest beatings on the show. Cookie Puss and Fudgie the Whale beatings, the Rainbow Room, changing his name from Fred to Eric....but still going by Fred, his insane bachelor party meltdown, everyone calling him insane over attacking Carol Alt, and lots of other smaller beatings. And Howard would put callers on the air to bash Fred a lot as well.

Howard had the thinnest skin by far. Firing lots of people over nothing was something he did all of the time. Him firing Scott the Engineer is one of the most pathetic acts in Howard's entire miserable life. Gag orders on O&A out of fear of being mocked. Losing his mind over Beth being roasted by Sal. Silencing callers over a million topics from his wig wearing to 'oil and vinegar' or whatever else would upset Howard. Extreme butthurt over Private Parts bombing to the point where he started doing Howard Math to cope. Constantly ripping on Artie and basically threatening to fire Artie when Artie fired back a few shots (which set the tone for Artie being deliberately weak against Howard for his remainder on the show). Firing pretty much the entire H100 News Team because they would report on Howard in embarrassing ways.

Howard despite his 50 years of therapy is way more mentally nuts than Fred.

So Fred is like Opie except more thin skinned and worse with the soundboard
Fred is the worst and harbors an insane amount of animosity towards Jackie. Apparently Fred “Faggot” Norris had a closed wedding on the beach with like 7 people and Gary hired a plumber who said he “was at Fred’s wedding” because he walked by on the public beach. This randomly comes up over a decade later and Fag starts freaking out about what “walking up” means. Hoo Hoo twisted the story for the bit but pussy boy only has the balls to lash out at Gary and Jackie. I’ll find the clip when I have time this weekend. My description doesn’t even do it justice because it’s absolutely embarrassing. He also once threatened to quit because they quickly looked through his book bag.

“Because Sal if you want to talk about wive’s physical appearances then we can go toe toe FUCKING toe. Because I’m real FUCKIN good at doing that.” Proceeds to not actually bring anything up. The more I listen to Stern, the more I appreciate Opie.

What was his anger towards Jackie about? Someone mentioned it was him asking for more money, or was it just because Jackie goofed on him. I'd agree Wiggy was the most thin skinned by Fred was a close second

Edit listening to cookie puss clip and it was Howard doing the same bullshit he always did. Hes making up some allegation of Fred lying about what he was doing on the weekends like it's any of his fucking business. It's just King Jew trying to control what his employees do with their lives

Jackie & Fred were both writers for the show, and credited as such on the E! Show credits. They often worked & collaborated together, and Fred saw them as co-writers for the show.

During contract negotiations, Jackie made a stipulations that he be credited as Head Writer. He also had a stipulation that no one else could be head writer or head co-writers, only Jackie could be the head writer. (This was when Benji was brought on board & Jackie got REAL nervous). Jackie was now the head writer and Fred/Benji were "reduced" to co-writers.

Fred was upset about this & brought it up with Jackie. Jackie told Fred something flippant like "This is how show business works!" & Fred took that real personally.

Jackie always had a weird vaudevillian view of the entertainment industry. The dude was on the biggest radio show on the planet, but thought his bizarre joke-book act & selling mugs/tshirts was his real success.

Jackie goofed on him but later on it became about money. Jackie came back on after he left and Fred was fuming about Jackie asking for more money. They originally wanted to pay him 15k for the whole year to be on the E show. That’s insanity. He negotiated himself as head writer during a ridiculous salary argument and Fred held a grudge about that. Always sounded to me like Fred couldn’t be mad at Howard so he directed his anger towards Jackie. I’ve never heard the cookie puss one but the rainbow room fight is crazy. Jackie didn’t even bring it up because Fred asked him not to.

2 year old account and this is your first comment? Fuck you, Fred!

Dammit, excellent breakdown homie. This is a great thread, glad you and the others posted on here.

I wonder what happened to make him turn down the Scarecrow part ? He has been out of touch for so long, how about the "rock band" he was in. If Fred was such a musician, why the fuck would you play with that walking stereotype of a Jew?

Gary called him out on his terrible taste in music;

That band was straight garbage

Gary is an audiophile, and Fred had the nerve to make fun of him for his top list of songs, his movie theater set up. Scott as well.

That would have been great to listen to his collection and watch a movie. Making fun of a guy for having barstools?

Robin is a black parrot The only ones who have stayed with him are the ass kissers and yes men.

Irrelevant for a long time.

Private Parts was an 80s ripoff. So many things to pick apart. Anyone post a link with him talking up the movie?

The thing that made him turn down scarecrow was that he was never offered or seriously considered for it, Rocketeer.

You can blame Howard for that. Billy West always said he didn't stop chasing down voice acting work because Howard and Tom Chiusano had zero respect for anyone. Artie practically died to make Beer League, and is still feeling the effects of making that film, and seemed to have very little attachment to the show or Howard. The host of the show didn't even respect the actual show nor the audience. How many times has Howard turned his show into nothing but plugs for another gig he was doing?

Remember, Howard stopped doing his radio show, and entertaining his audience, from the time Private Parts the book was being marketed until Private Parts the movie was released. Years of turning the show into plugs for his books or his movie and the audience being entertained being an afterthought. If his film Private Parts hadn't horrendously bombed it would probably have ended Stern's radio career. As he would have immediately quit to go do movies or host the Tonight Show or something like that. Once it tanked it basically humiliated the King of All Media into realizing he wasn't even 'king' of radio at that point.

This is why Opie was very careful not to overextend the O&A brand with endless television shows and books and other media. Opie said that every month they'd get an offer for a book deal and turn it down. And why Norton was constantly using the O&A name to open as many doors for himself as he possibly could as if the gravy train stopped rolling he might lose his show business status. And why the second that Anthony was fired he started reaching out to book publishers to try to double dip into the audience's pockets by releasing a book containing zero new information. Anthony's book was the cheap cash grab that Opie didn't want the show to have.

Fred and Jackie went on a double date with their wives at the Rainbow Room. A restaurant with a revolving dance floor and a huge open seating area so no tables are private. Fred proceeds to get into a huge fight with his wife who storms out publicly. Fred apologizes to Jackie and leaves. Next Monday Fred gets into the office and tells Jackie "please don't bring that up on the air". Jackie agrees.

The problem was that there was a listener who saw the entire thing. It was just one caller (which shows that Stern was again not really that popular). But Stern saw the call and put it on air not knowing if it was serious or not. Fred accused Jackie of telling Howard and setting up the call immediately as if no one but Jackie could possible have known about the fight. Because Fred was such an idiot and didn't think that a single person might call into the show and expose the fight when an entire room of people saw it.
The thing that made him turn down scarecrow was that he was never offered or seriously considered for it, Rocketeer.
It was offered to, to quote Stuttering John the Tonight Show announcer, Niggerless Cage. And not Howard. Cage was offered the role of Scarecrow and Courtney Love was going to be Harleyquinn. But the movie was never made after the latest Batman film was a bomb.

That really showcased Fred's insanity. He completely lost his shit at the caller for wittnessing his tantrum and daring to speak about it. Talentless, thin-skinned, lazy-eyed, listener-marrying faggot.

I totally agree that the quality of the show began to dip right around PP the book, and really spiraled downhill while he was hyping that shitty movie. You have to wonder how it might have done if he hadn't built up such ridiculously lofty expectations for it. He tried to strike a balance between entertaining his core audience and being a "mainstream celebrity", and he failed at both. The show still had some memorable moments between 1997-2001, but that old magic was gone and it never returned. And Howie lost some credibility when he sheepishly tried to pretend the movie was actually a success, as we all had eyes, and we all knew it was bullshit.

The era during his first book was still great. The second book era was his last great era. The movie, the divorce, the Artie years and then satellite went from "just good" to dog shit. A lot of the Artie years included in dog shit.
