Nail on the head. Zoomers especially cannot understand anything involving context. If a show or movies protagonist is a bad person they believe that everything they’re being shown is an endorsement of their actions. I know people who couldn’t watch the Sopranos because they thought it was just a show about how being a racist Italian is awesome. Just braindead liberal shit.
It’s like the niggers that don’t get the point of Scarface.

No sense of or appreciation of irony at all. "OMG, why is Homer physically abusing his son like that?".

It gave us some of the funniest moments on the show though.

- Vito drunk driving and shooting the asshole who parked in the road.
- The Soprano family interrogating Finn the dentist and him having a panic attack.
- Vito claiming that blood thinning medication made him suck cock.
- "Think about it Tony....the sudden weight loss?". "AIDS!!!".
- Vito telling his children he was in the CIA.
- Vito's brain damaged brother following him around.
- The one mobster getting a $50K loan from Vito right before he was whacked.
- Fat Dom saying "Carlo's lipstick was on Vito's cock" then getting beaten to death.
- Phil breaking the Soprano family's balls over Vito repeatedly.
- "Sal.....it's a joke.....I was here". And Vito's other excuses.

Yeah the fag stuff with the firefighter was terrible enough to drive the firefighter actor suicide. But the rest of the storyline is hilarious.
I didn’t think Vito shooting the dude in the road was meant to be funny.

I always thought it was ridiculous that they gave Tony such a laissez faire attitude towards Vito’s faggotry

His reaction was normal. Just because he wasn't kill all fags 1488, it wasn't ridiculous, you stupid fuck. He was against it, but not "yeah let's kill this guy" against it so he'd have something to feud with over Leotardo.

To me, Vito’s crash is a transparent storytelling tool to remind the retarded audience that he is an irredeemable piece of shit who deserves what is about to happen to him.
It's meant to be transparent. Before almost any mobster is killed on the show they kill someone else usually in the same episode or right before. Eugene kills the obese dude in the diner. Chris kills his writing partner JT. Pussy kills the Elvis impersonator. The writers would usually have them kill some innocent or random person to show how they were all pieces of shit.

He was against killing Vito over money and nothing more. Tony hated fags like everyone else. He was willing to compromise his values for money yet again. Plus Tony knew that Vito flat out threatened his son-in-law and Meadow over being seen sucking cock. It was to show that Tony's head was clouded by money and nothing more and he wasn't even looking at the big picture of his life.
