The Kinks appreciation thread

The Kinks are second only to The Beatles when it comes to the range in music styles they covered and the variety of genres they drew from and incorporated into their sound.

Their early singles are genuinely revolutionary and they continued to develop their sound from one album to the next with 1965-71 being their golden peeriud. Sniff.

Ray Davies is such a gifted lyricist and imaginative writer that his excellent singing and versatile voice aren't mentioned nearly enough. He was a solid rhythm guitarist too.

A masterpiece.

Two soldiers fighting in a trench
One soldier glances up to see the sun
And dreams of games he played when he was young
And then his friend calls out his name
It stops his dream and as he turns his head
A second later he is dead
