It could be argued that Kyle had justifiable self-defense right up until the moment before he shot Chad. The fact that he had the time to get into stance, raise, aim, and fire at Chad (who was standing in place and not advancing on him) potentially destroys any case he might have. Chad was no longer an active threat (instead, he was passively standing) in that moment. It's a tough one, man.
