Can you owe that much in taxes without making decent money at that time?
yeah I'm really confused by this. It's not like you owe 80k in back taxes in two years from being an unemployed person. Any non-retards want to do the math on what the tax would have been in '08 & '09 in order to figure out what kind of income she had at the time? Seems like the interest on unpaid taxes is very complicated and changes rates in 90 day periods.

I've got a relative that owed ~1k in taxes that the IRS never told her about. 10 years later they were demanding over 10k because interest, fees, etc.

She hired a tax attorney and ended up settling up for 3 grand or so, but the IRS will absolutely fuck you and no one who works for them is human.

You’d need about $400k in income to owe $80k in taxes but we don’t know over how long that debt accumulated or how much of it is fees and interest.

For some taxes when they used to be all on paper and you would have to write all the numbers in and manually do the math it was confusing as shit sometimes. After sending them in one year I got mail saying I was being audited because I was something like 10 dollars off on my total. Really amazes me when people think they can try and fuck the IRS out of millions

Yeah they fucked with me years ago, like 5 years after they told me 3 years in a row I was short on my taxes in 2015 and kept coming after me for some stupid amount (like under 100 bucks) but they did it 3 years in a row - and of course couldn’t talk to a real person and get an answer why I would pay it only to be told a year later I still owe from that one tax year that was over 5 years ago.
