Can somebody explain to a cum-brained retard like me why is there still so much money going into podcasts?
Didn't Spotify throw huge money at Joe Rogan's podcast because it was the biggest in the game and they wanted it to have some level of exclusiveness tied to it for their platform and then they realized that they weren't getting the necessary bang for their buck before backing off of that? Wasn't that a huge fiscal fuckup from THIS decade?
And yet in that article, SiriusXM is still salivating at the thought of taking popular podcasters and putting them behind a paywall like it's still 2006 with Stern. I don't understand that. Am I missing something?
Because people like listening to people.
It’s the reason why terrestrial radio hasn’t uttered its death rattle just yet. Is it objectively trash? Sure, but it still gets listeners; it’s entertainment.
Podcasts are the new talk radio, and they have been for awhile. The only difference now is the sheer amount of mediums in which we can consume content, which is also why these podcasts are not worth the big bucks big shows used to be worth.
But they’re still being consumed by the public.
I’ve read the numbers for SiriusXM. I did a case study on them in college. I’d have thought they’d have been in the shitter because of what I’ve said above, but quite the contrary, they have money to burn.
Are these podcasters worth 100m? I’d argue no, but then again I don’t work for a multibillion-dollar company, nor do I have access to their in-depth market research.
