“salon” cites Seth Simons to make the argument SNL is bad for comedians

The fact anyone takes Seth seriously will never not be hilarious to me. Seth has written nor done anything of substance in either comedy or politics for his opinions to be taken seriously. He’s literally the archetype of a “typical left leaning crybaby on the internet”. There’s thousands of them. Most of them are better at it than he is.
The highlight of Seth's comedy career is basically being called a faggot by Norm Macdonald on twitter - it was over Shane Gillis being fired from SNL.

Exactly.
In it's day sure... Eddie Murphy, bill Murray, will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, norm MacDonald etc. Talented people who became huge stars.

These days.... Pete Davidson, ooga booga Jones?? *Tumbleweeds*

Seriously, who are these people?

Cast members that were talented that didn't make it huge like Murray, Sandler, and Murphy--- Jason Sudekis, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, Fred Armisen, Will Forte, and Chris Parnell.

They have all had good careers post SNL-- there's basically no one on SNL right now who are as good as any of the names mentioned above.

Harvard/Yale writers aren't as good as they used to be and a lot of millenials and Gen-Z are flat out, not funny in any form-- it doesn't help that SNL basically made a hard left and had their brain broken by Obama's two terms (they handled him with kid gloves) and Trump winning the election in 2016.

You also have to see how the fanbase has evolved (actually devolved). If reddit is a decent barometer, the fanbase is littered with litteral faggots with zero senses of humor. They clamor for a diverse cast and then openly wonder why the show sucks and seems to have zero energy.

The show will most likely never be as good as it was in the early part of the 2010's and it wasn't particularly great then-- they even completely fucked up the formula of ha e 1 or 2A+ skits- some B's a couple of C's and whatever at the end. Their cold openings are usually political and a complete snooze fest and it saps a lot of the energy out of the show right off the bat-- combine that with a decent amount of young stars today having the charisma of a wet dish rag and bad musical guests, you have a program that's on life support and in serious jeopardy of having the plug pulled after it turns 50.

SNL is bad for comedians because the ones from the past ten years aren't funny. The nog and the fag doing weekly update, butthole eyes Pete Davidson, big nigger Leslie Jones. They all read cue cards, poorly and can't hold it together.

Hot take, I've never thought Will Ferrell was funny and was pretty sure all my comedy friends who did were either nuts or screwing with me.
The cue card thing has been there forever. Uber sperg Lorne Michaels absolutely hates when they go off script. Don't forget that they're rewriting dialogue up until showtime and sometimes right before the skit is going to air. Remembering all that shit would very really difficult for live TV--

Salon has to be the next rag that goes out of business , surprised Vice died first.

Edit: why did they have a problem with Dice being a host?! That came out of no where in this shitpiece.

Salon.com has never been profitable despite being online for more than twenty years. They are subsided by two wealthy men who made money in Adobe and Google.

A bunch of SNL cast went onto to have good careers on TV. Comedy movies have almost gone away, which is Hollywood's fault rather than SNL's.

My favorite part was when a guy who thinks making bird noises is cutting edge comedy said he doesn't understand the point of political impersonations because they "comedywash" things that make him angy. How did that worthless rat ever have anything even resembling a career related to comedy?
