All Grown Up wasn't as bad as everyone said. It was something different and yet made sense to my then-preteen mind. At least it didn't involve watching babbling infants wearing nappies like the creepy original programme.





Though it did seem in some episodes like 13 year old Angelica wanted to groom her younger cousin's bestie Chuckie into being her future boyfriend, which was bizarre but probably in-character (she's an unapologetic bitch on wheels I love her), and since they're opposite/foils in characterisation terms it works. Angelica had this annoying fat pet gay sidekick as well, who also had red hair, odd coincidence.

Reading the thread and writing his it’s all coming back to me (wish I had this brain space back). As I recall Angelica’s mother in this spinoff had had insane and scary plastic surgery, I laughed tbh. The Finsters owned a smoothie bar-coffee shop. The Pickles parents were still funny, perhaps even better for being 40-50 somethings. Phil & Lil’s mother still hadn’t come out as a dyke though.

And her kids didn't have separate friends or lives, which is not realistic nor healthy for teen twins--Phil fake-dated one of Lil's boyfriends as a prank iirc. The plot about Tommy wanting to slip it to Chuckie's adopted Japanese little sister was...unsettling more than cute, considering Kimi was younger than all the others barring Dyl (not a funny name then or now). Poor Suzie was still Big Boring and kind of a token, but she had one really good serious dramatic episode where she was conned/catfished by someone promising her they’d get her a recording contract.




Tbhwy all the aged-up Rats still seemed too young. Preteens and 10-12 year olds are dull, hard to write or make entertaining and likeable. High-school or College age would have been a better show, you can have them explore their world more.

Someone is probably going to reboot or parody the show again in the coming years, with them as loser dysfunctional Millennial adults.

Yeah I’ve been seeing that too, shirts / hoodies / sweat pants etc for Rugrats and the dinosaur toy that was on the show. I still see black adult males wearing space jam shit, I’ll never understand it. I watched rugrats when it first came out because I was 6 or 7 and was done with it by 9 or 10. To be an adult and into it the point you buy clothes and other shit for it makes no sense to me.
