outside of the bright minds of Musical Criticism, i never understood it to be fawking honest with ya. why would anyone care what a faggot like this thinks or a whole gaggle of faggots at pitchfork when music is accessible and free? even worse is imagining someone listening to something and still thinking 'i wonder what a faggot on youtube thinks about it'
Before streaming was ubiquitous, I'll give credit to sites like AllMusic (even though they give good ratings to shit sometimes) and RateYourMusic (even though every reviewer there is a pretentious douche) where you could find out about different genres and more obscure bands and albums. Rolling Stone is exclusively major label cookie cutter music already played on radio ad nauseam and Pitchfork was the "indie" (yyyyuck) version of that. Remembered at one point seeing all the featured bands on that dumb site happened to have the same touring management. What a coincidence! No reason to read either of them.
