Back in the day, they used to to an American and a British version of each album. Usually the difference would be that the American album had added some radio hit from the band. And they would sometimes have different covers.
Between the Buttons by The Rolling Stones was the first album that came to mind, you can read about some of the differences here.

As far as Brit vs American versions: when they were originally coming out in the early 60s trying to get into the US they couldn’t get a single record company to commit to them. At first that lent itself to them having all of the top 5 spots on the billboard charts with songs on 5 different labels. With the full length albums the American companies they would take the songs from the british albums and mix them around with songs only on singles and shit in order to be able to release more stuff. So the first proper album is “Please Please Me” but in USA we got “Meet The Beatles” with some same songs and then we got “The Beatles Second Album” instead of “With The Beatles”. So there was a huge pile of extra random shit that came out here. The back half of of the catalog started syncing up more with the actual releases but still some random shit here and there like “Hey Jude”. In addition to different songs alot of it was slightly different mixes too: stereo vs mono, reverb on vocals etc. when it came time to make CDs they chose to only make the British versions as those were “official”. Sometime around 15 years ago they put out all the US stuff in some cd box sets
