At the time it was unique in a sense since it was instant and limited to 140 spaces. I remember at first it was known for “live tweeting” things and for up and coming comedians to post jokes and gain a following (similar to how Dane Cook used MySpace to gain fame) but once it became all politics with Trump that’s when it went bad and all the sane people left.

Trump was really the only person keeping it going since social media had shifted to being all visual (Snapchat, tik Tok, Instagram, etc) and the only time you heard about twitter was in relation to “look what Trump tweeted!”

Now Trump is gone and Elon bought it troll and the nut jobs on there are so addicted to it they can’t get off it.

The news media allowed it to become considered a "reliable news source". Once tweets started breaking live uncut news they were fucked. Now they scramble to be the first to post info found in tweets without any investigating how valid they are. They dont even try to get facts right. Its all about being first to report it.

It was so lame when news started quoting tweets and even saying the hashtags. Its just made the news media lose all credibility. I can find my news sifting through the internet just like they do and I do.

Your story checks out, I read it once in awhile just for the racism. Looks like Musk bought it at its peak though. Twitter shareholders jumped at his first offer. I'm guessing it is going to tank pretty fast but musk will take it private and keep the stats quiet. He's already unloading everyone on the payroll and replacing techs with his own engineers who I suspect are far smarter than the techs at twitter but advertisers are going away fast. Whoever provided the cash to close the deal at the last minute is the one I believe will be pulling the strings

I’m sure Twitter has WAY more staff than was actually needed and plenty of diversity / quota hires / etc. I work in investment banking for a global company and I’m always shocked at how many employees they have in high positions that really don’t do anything to the point you could cut up to 30% of the staff things will run just as well. I once was in a department that had multiple people in manager positions that managed zero people. I’m sure Twitter is that way and Elon cleaning house just to be efficient will cut a lot of the fat and be profitable.

The worst is when they claim “the internet is upset / in an uproar!” over something newsworthy or something related to something a Republican did / something racial and the news article shows a couple nobody’s on twitter upset over something. There’s over 300 million people in the US and they really want people to think the tweets from a handful of people are the majority. I see this especially with stupid shit like the black mermaid like the entire country is freaking out because a Disney character is black because we’re such an evil racist nation. It’s why they try to say the country is so “divided” when that’s what they’re selling without proof.

If he thinks that his main Twitter account is so great and he has "a following", why not do all that as Torque and retweet it with the stealthygeek account?
