Opie would have had a mediocre career in radio no matter what. It’s because of Opie alone that Ant, Morton, Sam, Brother Joe etc had their careers.

We ain't goon hooligans we Maloonigans
Opie could have had Mancow level fame without Ant. That is, a mosquito presence on various markets that has people saying "wtf how is he still a thing?" for the next 3 decades.

Still spreading the O&A virus
Brothaman had drive and a passion. AntH married his brothers sloppy seconds when he didn't want to because "I guess I have to".
Opie brought both Anthony and Norton to the show as well as Sam who now co-hosts with Jim. Likely Opie without Anthony would have been him and Norton with Bobby, Burr, Vos, Louis CK, or Patrice. It would have been a different show for sure. But the O&A show at its peak took years to develop. Anthony was a mediocre hack who needed several years to truly gain the confidence to talk aggressively on the radio. People act like Anthony showed up to O&A and overnight became this amazing co-host but he was a meek timid faggot until they were practically off of WNEW.

It takes years to develop a radio show or podcast. People act like Rogan or Burr or even Stern hit their peak on day one and never had to build anything. As if Stern wasn't ever Hop-Along-Howie. Or Rogan wasn't a Fear Factor host. Or Burr wasn't a traveling standup and writer for other comics like Chapelle. These guys started their talk shows later than earlier in their careers including Howard despite the Private Parts revisionism.

If Opie had started a show with Norton, Bobby, and Vos, it would have taken four or five years to really become an established show before they were all comfortable with each other. Even the top TV show writers mostly made trash before their big show. David Chase wrote a lot of mediocre stuff before he was good enough to make Sopranos.

This is why Opie and Jim failed and why Jim and Sam failed. Because no one had the patience to let hem develop a repertoire or format for a few years. They want instant success because the show they were replacing was still a great show. No one wanted to go to from greatness to mediocrity. Like Sopranos to Many Saints of Newark.

Enough Sopranos references for you faggots?
