Every now and then you'll meet a really even-tempered person and marvel at how chill and organized they are, then you talk to someone else who knows them and you find out they were a raging addict and somehow got clean and is able to be sober without too much drama.
Those people are always cool and don't mention anything about addiction because they know how shitty they used to be and have the good sense to retain some shame about it.

It's people like Norton who wax poetic about the struggle at every given opportunity who are enraging. You just replaced the vice with head pats now that you aren't actively being a burden to society and it's obvious that's all it is.

You meet people like that and they downplay their past problems - like if they’re offered a drink they just “no thanks, I’m good” or even “no thanks, I don’t drink” and leave it at that.
