The most infuriating thing about Norton and his pictures is he doesn’t even have some sort of “code”. He’ll trash celebrities for hours then ask for a picture with them. He’ll trash celebrities based on if they take a picture with him and not on their work. He doesn’t take pictures with people based on if he knows them or likes their work - If they’re famous he will get a photo. It’s fucking bizarre. I can count on one hand the amount of celebrities I’d WANT to get a picture with. He gets them with anybody.

Was listening to a bit and they brought up Jack Black and Jim said "enough of him already!!" then Opie said how he was nice on the show back in the day and Jim of course brings up him being a dick about a photo. Fucking faggot.

This is a ramble, but the way i’ve always viewed it is pictures with celebrities are pretty invasive. Even signing something isn’t that bad. But a photo takes longer, and people will go “Oops sorry lets try again”, plus maybe the guy doesn’t want a photo or thinks he looks like shit. You have an easier time signing something. Norton however is the ultimate dick and gets a photo AND signature. Any celebrity must want to run when they see him coming because they know the look of an obsessed fan who only wants a memento from you.

But at least in the examples I just listed…the celebrity can go “Ah that was annoying but that guy is a fan of my work and that means a lot.” Norton straight up doesn’t give a fuck. He might as well be selling the shit online because the photo is absolutely meaningless to both of them. The fact that he spirals into suicidal depression and murderous rage over a denied photo speaks volume to his life.

I forget the show but Colin is in studio and everyone leaves to get a photo with Miley Cyrus and he just says how absurd it is that these shock jocks turn into little girls over a celebrity.

Reminder that Norton would always tell his camera slave to say "sorry it was blurry" or something else to allow Norton to get two photos with the celebrity. So he can choose which one he likes the best. Even if the first one came out fine he would still make sure to get that second photo just in case. So Norton could agonize over and scrutinize each detail in the photographs to make sure that they were perfect......before sending them to a professional retouching and printing agency.

One time Opie took a photo of Norton with some celebrity with a huge glare coming off of a window in the background, like a solar flare, and told Norton "photo was fine" and handed him the camera knowing that when Norton saw the image later he would lose his mind. Opie once suggested on the show, that when Norton left his photos in the studio, to be autographed by celebs who visited the show when he was on the road, that they should copy the photos and smear mud on them or deface them just to see Norton go crazy. Norton had given a poster to Florentine to get some musicians he was interviewing to autograph it, and Opie said to find the same poster and step on it, and tell Norton "yeah I dropped it getting out of a cab" as a goof.

Not that I think any famous person would have any regard for Norton at all, but imagine the small sliver of a possibility that someone famous is doing the show, possibly even seeing the hosts as their equals, or at least other members of show business who know how annoying it can be to deal with fans day in and day out, and as you’re leaving the studio, the host bum rushes you and forces you to take a photo. It’s like if you worked at a restaurant and the manager came in on their day off and started being a total Karen.

And what’s the point of this photo? It’s not a fun memory to look back at one day, he’s not a fan of her. When he’s alone at night in his lonesome apartment with bare walls, is he going to thumb through his loser photo album and say “hey, Jimbo, forget what everyone on the planet says, you’re not a pathetic loser. You met Kirstie Alley because her publicist forced her to meet you for 20 minutes.”

Because it's an unhealthy compulsion, like all his behaviors.

There's no logical end to it either. He talks about his apartment gallery like it brings him some joy but it's just about the endless "you gotta do it MORE" obsession that applies to his eating, porn, hookers, everything.

This was something that Sal the Stockbroker would hilariously do on Stern. He would talk to the guests like they were his friends or equals. So Chris Rock or whoever would be in the green room. And out of nowhere Sal would just sit down next to him and ask "you think I could get away with doing 'coon' jokes on stage being Italian?" or whatever stupid thing it was. And Sal allegedly did that enough times where they had to give him his own special rules regarding guests. Or basically give him another ultimatum for his borderline psychotic way of carrying himself.

Norton had instructed Roland and others to find the guest lists of all shows on Sirius in case he wanted to ambush someone whose autograph he wanted. So like the Disney channel would have Miley Cyrus on as a guest, and Norton would ambush her, or have Kenny basically harass her publicists for some one on one time in the hallway with Norton. Or Sirius had Paul McCartney promote the Beatles channel and Norton had to chase him down and was shaking after getting the photograph.

It got to the point where other people on other shows would emulate Norton's photograph hounding and management got involved because so many guests complained. And whenever an O&A staffer or someone from another show would get told by management "stop harassing celebrities" they would all say "Norton does it". Yet management ended up making an exception for Norton, under certain conditions of course, that he could get Kenny or Roland or someone else to get a private photograph or autograph just not in the halls where everyone could see.

Because there is no end to new celebrities. If you wanted the autographs of the members of Journey you only need a few autographs. The signatures of everyone on a World Series team? Between the players, managers, owners, and random others, maybe 100 signatures total. But if you want autographs and pictures with anyone even remotely famous? You can never stop collecting. Because there are new celebrities every week.

Norton gave himself as impossible task. There are simply too many famous people to keep up with. And there are literally 'famous' people who do nothing but make 30 second social media videos. And Norton is not just collecting autographs or memorabilia or whatever. He is literally trying to appear in the photographs of these people in person and then track them down at a later date with a professionally printed poster or photo to autograph.

Norton set himself up for an endless series of daunting hounding browbeating chases of random celebrities.

Further proof it's not about the people specifically, just his perceived aura they have. It's probably the same aspect of KISS comforting him after kicking him down the stairs and being headlocked by "alphas."
"Wow, these paragons of humanity have graced this lowly worm with their presence, I must not be a truly worthless wretch that deserved those molestations after all!"

Anyway, is celebrity worship like a boomer thing or just low IQ? I find myself so far in the other direction like I'd hate to ask people like these for a picture because it would validate their egos as gods for some mostly worthless shit they've done. Especially so when you give them worship not because you like their work, but just because they're popular.
That could just be my resentment but Norton's angle is more embarrassing.

It always pisses me off when I listen to the show where Louie explains why he doesn't take photos with fans. Worm laughs hysterically throughout but then throws a psychotic tantrum anytime he talks about a celebrity refusing a picture with him.

Howard wouldn’t let his staff bother the guests and tweaked out on Jackie for having them sign jokes he wrote during the show. On the other hand, everyone on the OnA staff had tons of shit for some celebrities to sign. E-rock being the worst offender because he “was getting signatures for his nephews.” They’d talk about what they were bringing in for the guests to sign. Incredibly unprofessional.

Sal told Jon Stewart that a specific joke on his show sucked and he should fire the guy who wrote it. It comes up in the Artie vs Sal and Richard fight. “You don’t see how me asking for a porn chick’s phone number isn’t different than you telling Jon Stewart that his jokes suck?”
