You guys keep talking about how frugal that Jim is, but this is a liability in a divorce.
A couple of anecdotes:
1) When I stared dating my wife, almost all of my money was tied up in real estate, and a lot of it barely had any equity. The house that I lived in, I bought it in 2008 and watched all my equity evaporate. My wife had ZERO incentive to divorce me, because she couldn't "take me to the cleaners;" if we split up the assets, there wasn't much to take. Once the market recovered, my net worth improved a lot. But there was a while there when I had houses that I would have lost money on, if I'd sold them. (I didn't.)
2) I had a friend who scrimped and saved his entire life, had two kids with a much younger woman. She cheated on him with a dude at work, divorced his ass, took half of his money, got child support on top of that. So half of his wealth went bye-bye AND he had to cut her a check every month for the kids. For a while, he was delivering newspapers at night, just to keep up with the bills. Because he was "sentimentally attached" to the house he lived in, when they got divorce, he had to write her a check for HER half of the house's equity EVEN THOUGH HE DIDN'T SELL THE HOUSE. IE, if you live in a house and it's worth a million, you have two options if your wife leaves you. The first option is to sell the house and split the proceeds, that's the easy option. The HARD option is to hold on to the house, and make an educated guess about what it's worth, and then PAY HER THAT, on top of half of your 401K, half your savings, etc. When the dust settles, you may find that 75% of your wealth is GONE and you have to cut her a check every month. That's how 40yo dudes wind up working a second job at 7-11. For a dude with a million dollar house, $500K in equity, and a million in a 401K, he would have to give his wife $250K in cash for the home equity (even though the home isn't sold), $500K of the 401K, her lawyer fees, and child support payments. So from DAY ONE, his net worth goes from $1.5M (as a household) to $750,000. Most importantly, he has to take ALL of that $750K out of his 401K (because he didn't sell the house.) He ends up House Poor in the extreme, AND he still has to pay her lawyer too, for the pleasure of getting sued by her. When he walks out of court, he'll have equity in the house and 80-85% of his liquid assets are G-O-N-E.
Jim and Thor don't have kids, obviously, but when Thor bails on Norton, he will be responsible for all of Thor's expenses. That's one of the caveats of the K1 Visa Program. The United States does this, so that people don't "game the system" by marrying foreigners (to get them citizenship) and then divorcing them a week later.
Bookmark this post, because here's what will happen to Jimmy:
1) He's going to go on a big tour playing theaters. They will not come close to selling out. If he's renting the venue, like Carolla and Louis CK do, Jim is 'on the hook' for the rental cost. If he can't fill at least 75% of the room, he'll lose money. This is the reason that Carolla stopped doing theaters and now plays at Jimmy Kimmel's Comedy Club at the Linq in Vegas; I assume that Kimmel just lets him play for free there. A lot of comedians aren't so lucky, and have to "pay to play."
2) On the latest podcast, Thor said he wants a girlfriend. Norton didn't even flinch, he's obviously heard it before.
3) Thor will start dating a woman who's age appropriate. There really aren't a whole lot of trannies that date men; most MTF trannies date women, and Thor is obviously doing this for the $$$$. People aren't "born" trans, it's just a fetish. Thor is a dude who likes women and who has a fetish for dressing up like one.
4) With Jim Norton out-of-state, Thor will have carte blanche to fuck all the women he wants.
I think I know perverts pretty well, and I wouldn't be surprised if Norton quit the Sirius gig, because he fantasizes about watching Thor fuck women. He probably thinks he can go out on the road, get away from his drunk boyfriend, and watch his boyfriend plow women with his Thorcock. Of course, none of that will happen, because why would it? Thor has zero incentive to do anything for Jim, because Thor can take half of Jim's money, any time he feels like it.
