Possible. But at their depth in cold saltwater the sound doesn't really travel all that far. The media played up the 'tapping' noises like these guys were still breathing. But it was just random sounds from the ocean floor.

The more I read up on this, the more I'm convinced the movie is coming soon and it'll be a tragic tale about this Stockton Rush character. With the "Titanic Expert" being a side character.
