When you join a ship as part of the crew (even with a job description Guitarist/musician) it's not unlike being a new Navy recruit. Orientation, Basic safety School, all required. Learning your way around the crew decks/corridors/elevators...chain of command, rules and reg's., crew mess hall etc..I'm glad I did the military in my 20's. Made me know exactly what to expect. 4 months...only my guitar as my "weapon".
"...meh! I can do that standing on my head...The $ isn't great this time
out but gets better quickly according to the agency that booked me for this one.
Lots of red tape re: maritime working papers and and qualifications. Seas are high in the North Atlantic today (Think Normandy invasion sized swells) and my mattress is lumpy AF.
LOL. Made me immediately realize how soft and spoiled I was getting at home...This is some good training. Couldn't be better timing too. Makes you appreciate everything and everyone you have back home. Can't lie, I'm looking forward to being done with this contract and seeing if they come to the table $$$ and perks with #2. July will be here in a flash.
So far so good...
Mainly Brit's (97%) as passengers on this cruise out of the UK. Last nights show was awesome.
Lots of enthusiasm. The crowd built steadily..lots of whooping it up, applause... compliments etc. I should have a nice crowd to start tonight.
I was just informed that there's going to be a crew wine and cheese welcome party in a couple days. I was asked by the Entertainment director to play a set in the crew lounge. Not unlike playing at the Moose Lodge with members from all over the world. He must've liked what I did last night.
