At some point recently I was wondering to myself what hildy's endgame was getting involved in this shit but then I saw somewhere he's likely a wannabe author, so he's basically trying to emulate pat's career trajectory of sucking up to the big names so that his artless garbage might land him a payday. Except he's sucking up to pat who is a fucking failure well past his tiny peak. MENSA really isn't sending their best. Oh yeah, I guess he also sucks up to delaney hoping he'll notice him and say "yeah, I regret saying kid fucking is a normal and mutually beneficial sexuality" so he can cleanse the scifi scene of that stigma. Seems delaney is too busy eating oatmeal and abusing his assistant to respond.

I worked in pubs and bars when I was young. You get the occasional likeable regular, but it's impossible to respect them - they're alcoholics and are inevitably annoying after an hour or two. Fat isn't likeable in any way so these "bartender friends" of his actively dislike him on top of having zero respect for him. Nice friends, you lonely zilch.
