I remember them showing us the Di Caprio version in high school. This was around when Titanic had just come out and he was huge. Still wasn't enough to make the kids interested in Shakespeare lol. I can't remember if it was actually any good or not now.
It was your typical Baz Luhrman movie. Camp and colourful and lots of flash editing. Not my cup of tea, but a lot of people like that kind of thing. His Elvis movie was the same deal

That's the one scene in the whole thing anyone remembers. It's the very beginning of the movie and it's downhill as soon as Arnie Montague shows up.

"Romeo, thy can't be climbin' upon the water tower no more!"
I haven't seen it in forever and remember plenty of scenes. When they meet by the fishtank and the "Plague on both your houses" scenes for example.

Okay now that you bring them up, I remember both of those too. The only time I saw it we watched it I grade 9 after we read the book and watched the other movie version with the underage tits.

Except Romeo is a simp. At the beginning of the play he's in love with the unseen Rosaline, one of Juliet's cousins. She broke it off with him because she wants to live a life of chastity (either she's a lesbo and wants to become a nun or she's not attracted to him and was trying to let him down gently.) Despite this rejection, he's still pining over her. In fact, his reason for sneaking into the Capulet ball is to see her again. Instead, he sees Juliet and immediately forgets about stupid Rosaline. The rest is tragedy.

Every actor they've got to play him in movies; from Leonard Whiting to Laurence Harvey to Di Caprio, has looked like a melt. Point is, the 2024 version of that guy would probably go for this ugly monkoid - for social justice points if nothing else.

This is an inspired casting choice.
A "melt?"

I could be crazy but I distinctly remember seeing willem defoe or someone that looks like him playing romeo in a leather motorcycle jacket. As I'm sure has been pointed out, Shakespeare has been done a million times a thousand different ways, who cares if a nigger plays juliet.

Anthony Cumia's Romeo and Juliet would be about a 60 year old man pining for a fifteen year old "girl", against the wishes of her family.

He'd also get plugs and take testosterone injections to avoid looking like Estelle Getty.
The setting can be inside a casino and KtC can play Mercutio who defends his Romeo against Juliet's angry father. Erock will post about it and then delete it hastily.

It could be worse. They could have a nigger playing Romeo and have Juliet be white. I think Anthony would legitimately die.
