I know there were re-runs. I've also seen Knight Rider and Magnum PI even though it went off the air before I was in kindergarten. Doesn't mean I'm going to start referencing them constantly

I don't think you understand youngster. We had, at most, 7 channels in the 70s: ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS and maybe 3 UHF channels. Dick Van Dyke was part of our daily lives. Same as Gomer Pyle, The Beverly Hillbillies, McCale's Navy, The Munsters, etc, etc, etc... It wasn't like discovering Magnum PI on Nick at Night for you. 70s kids grew up watching shows that originally aired in the 50s and 60s every single day of our lives.

The time period. Jaws came out when he was a teenager. Alien as well. People tend to hang on to things from their formative years and he's no different, but I don't think I need to remind you that the Cumia bag is full of ancient references. Next time you hear a Honeymooners reference, that's a 70 year old show.
