The problem is the leads. Arnold et al were the epitome of 80s machisimo and had spectacular screen presence.

Predator 2 has Danny Glover as an every-man cop due to coming out after Die Hard / lethal weapon redefined the action hero for the 90s. Danny does a good job with this role and also looks like a real human being.

All future predators fall victim to the biggest issue in 2000s+ cinema - the lack of a compelling action hero lead. There’s not a good 2000s archetype. You have the Rock who is just a family friendly (and gay) version of the 80s steroid hero, you have Vin Diesel, and then you have a bunch of faggot muscle twinks. They’re all too generic.

For a movie like this you do not have to be a good actor, you just have to have a commanding and compelling screen presence. That practically doesn’t exist anymore.

That’s where that movie really falls apart for me. It makes no god damned sense that he’d stab the Mexican chick even if he is a serial killer or whatever, with his explanation being that he likes killing and wants to stay on the planet. Okay well you haven’t killed anyone and a Predator will kill you in about 10 seconds on your own, so the logical thing to do would definitely be to attack someone who can help you.

The Batman voice really bugged me, but I liked that movie. Good premise, plot was what it needed to be, and the fact that the racist prisoner never uses any racial slurs really made me loff.
