Not really - it's shaped like that because it has to accelerate the projectile in a vacuum, otherwise they lose too much energy to drag. On Mars/the Moon/asteroids you'd use something linear, like a rail gun.

Fuckin' dunce. His usage of "less velocity" rather than "lower velocity" hurts my ears, too.
