It's infuriating how they all so easily take "free money" from the government instead of getting jobs. Very well put, what’s even worse is they don’t even require students learn this in school - you pretty much have to go to college for finance to even learn how the world works. I’ve got so many friends I’ve known since high school that have no idea how things like the stock market works or what investing is - it’s just not taught.

I learned everything I know about finance / investing from an old drunk that would come into my bar when I was a bartender in an Atlantic City casino. He had worked his whole life as a driver for Coke, wasn’t some high up - just a guy with a route. He retired with a 401k, pension, employee stock, and had been investing his whole life to the point his dividend paid all his bills. House was paid off and he had nothing but free time and money to burn. That’s how you do it.

You could drive a bus all your life and by basic crisis aversion methods could retire a millionaire, as a boomer.

I have a credit card with 10k limit, I never ever use it. It just raises my credit score and it’s for a rainy day. It would have to be an extraordinary set of bad circumstances for me to use it. If I can’t afford something, I don’t buy it.

I don’t care what people say about cash back offers and all that shit. Being debt free is it’s own reward.

I understand all the benefits and could do it, I’m not wealthy but I make a solid salary and I’m frugal. I just don’t want anything, I just don’t care. I’m happier being debt free than I would be accumulating stupid shit ,I don’t even want to travel. There’s a great stoic quote about travelling.

The full quote is even more remarkable, as long as I’m self reliant I’m content (career/money wise)

That’s what I do, just got a new one to pay down some debt (had to do some home improvements recently) since I can easily pay it off within the 15 months no interest instead of one my card that has interest. Hate paying interest to the “you-know-who’s”
