If we’re talking box office success, I’d put Depp and Damon a little later.

The first Jason Bourne film came out in 2002 and the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie didn’t come out until 2003.

Outside of the pirates movies Johnny Depp was a movie “Star” yet his movies weren’t huge box office hits. Same with a lot of Brad Pitt’s movies (minus oceans 11 etc)

Brad Pitt was more known for his Brangelina duo than any real movie besides "Fight Club" IMO...the whole off-screen shit with Angelina Jolie and the adopted orphans and her alpha personality, etc. Was what made him a "star".

They tried that with Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, but those two had no appeal to the public...lol

Yeah, that’s the weird thing about Depp. He was a name you knew, but his films were so random. I knew him from mostly his Burton stuff.

He was killing it till the mid 90s. The Fugitive and Air Force One were huge hits. He never really recovered from doing that movie with Anne Heche where he basically played himself (stoner pilot with an earring.)
