Kevin Smith quits smoking weed permanently

He wanted to go a more sentimental direction with Jersey Girl (which I thought was a fairly decent Sunday afternoon type of movie) but after it got lambasted he bolted right back to the familiar. Only this time he couldn't help but infuse that same schmaltz into the View Askewniverse (I know, I hated typing it, too) and we end up with hacky shit like this in a Clerks sequel

Just sitting and silently reflecting on life, man. That's what fans want to see Dante and Randall doing!

He tried too hard to make it a "real" movie. The subplot with Dante and Rosario Dawson was just abysmal. Dante and Randall riffing on pop-culture bullshit while they endure their shitty jobs...that's all it had to be. And that wife of his is an even worse actress than his daughter is. Every scene she was in was downright painful.

Jay and Silent Bob could have been Cheech and Chong, he could have just done a whole series of movies where they get into all kinds of wacky adventures. But instead, he let Harold and fucking Kumar do it while he pretended to be a "filmmaker".

IMO Clerks 2 was his last acceptable movie. While it was pretty shitty at times, the funny bits made up for it. Clerks 3 was a total piece of shit, but it was easily his best movie since Clerks 2, which tells you plenty about how laughably terrible the rest of them are. I assumed that Yoga Hosers was Smith totally bottoming out (his daughter has absolutely no acting talent whatsoever), but he topped it with Reboot, which was quite obviously the work of a completely weed-addled retard huffing his own farts.
J&SB Reboot was much better than Clerks 3 and I'll argue about it.

Jay and Silent Bob knew it was a retarded cartoon, acted like a retarded cartoon, and got a handful of genuinely laughs out of me. It's "sentimentality" worked better for me too.

Clerks 3 was all "meta", the laziest, hack form of comedy that exists, and tried to make me feel something by having characters screaming and crying and then killing one. And I'll freely admit to loving Clerks 2.

While I felt that Clerks 3 was indeed a giant piece of shit, I just loathed Reboot. His daughter is nails on a chalkboard bad.

Good for him, honestly. I was just thinking about how lame his movies are again, and thought can't blame him, his vision is foggy. But now imagine the late night shame spirals this guy can go down stone cold sober. "I used to brag about crying so people would talk about me... Everyone I know saw me do that. They all think of me that way now." Etc.

I've always seen Kevin as a bit of a lolcow with his beatnik jargon trying so hard to be cool. But his SmodCast episodes where he jocktobers his teenaged self (Emo Kev) is incredible, I highly recommend it.

In Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back 2001 the cameo scenes with Dante and Randall characterized them perfectly - aged gracefully, whereas in Clerks 2, Dante's soy sauce hair and goatee especially in the sunlight, just looks terrible. They should have done all Clerks movies in black and white. And actors wearing hats with fake hair on them... How bout -- hey, they're older now, and he doesn't have a mullet anymore. How about that? No, give him hair made of straw.

I would watch a movie or TV show about old bitter critical idiots talking shit about everything... Beavis and Butthead reboot was good. And the Clerks and O&A reboots can be good as well.

I would even watch Clerks as a series, if Kevin Smith remains sober and gets back with Scott Mosier who has conveniently been absent from all of Kevin's recent terrible movies for years now. Hmmmm...

What did you think today was going to be?
no. He became a pothead on the set of CopOut in 2009...and everything sense has been abysmal
Earlier actually. Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008). Seth Rogen got him hooked. Remember reading an interview where Smith marvelled at how Rogen could be high all day and still be productive and thought "I can do that." Lol. Worked out great.

Rogen didn't get him hooked. He smoked with him like one or two times but it was only when Zack and Miri bombed he started smoking 24/7. Literally the weekend it bombed and he has said himself that's what started it.
