What a sad diatribe. All the other nonsense aside Does he really make the same money for the same time? When he plays the red lobster on Route 110, do they lock him in a box for the 22 hours he's not playing? He's being paid pennies per hour in reality.

His rent free comment, does he contribute "rent" to carol for living in her house? Did he tell her, "no rent until August, since I won't be living here" Does he think the bills at home have all stopped because he is on a boat? Does he think his credit card interest goes away for 4 months because he isn't home to see the bills delivered? I can't even fathom how stupid he is, unless he is just lying about all of this to avoid admitting he was desperate and made a terrible business decision.
I didnt even think about carols perspective. So now Joe is on a cruise for 3-4 months and will return with no actual money to help with the bills. Instead he will be returning with a dental bill that will cost them more than he made. The whole trip gig is a giant waste of time.

And you know he's going to be milking the exhaustion for weeks after he gets home. "Carol, can you cut the grass this week? I'm still beat. And you've been doing it for the past 3 months anyway."

Those ventilation problems and having to take claritin worries me. I knew it was a bad idea for brother joe's health to go on a boat trip. Remember Sib died drumming on a cruise ship and I hope Joe doesn't go out like that!
You don't hope he goes out like that, Jim?

“While younger musicians have the freedom and stamina to pull off a 4-9 month contract at this pace, they generally don’t know how to entertain 50-80 yr olds, and older! “
You don't think those old birds in suits would have been upset if it were a cute 30 year old woman in a cocktail dress singing in the entrance to the restaurant instead of the seasoned "Brotha" Joe?

I wonder if they’ve made it clear he won’t be asked back for any future cruises due to his repeat warnings (being in the casino, etc) so he’s already coming up with reasons to explain why this will be his only cruise. I can already see some kind of “we didn’t see eye to eye during negotiations”
I was thinking that but part of me wondered if they would tell someone that when they still have 2 months left that they need him for. Seems like something you say around the last week of the contract so its not awkward and he doesnt become difficult for 2 months. On the other hand he is doing a ton of damage control. " Glowing reviews" " unicorn" " A real pros pro" " I make more at home for less work". Its a tough one.

I hope someone with the autism and a facebook account can put his posts about this gig in order so we can see go down hill. From " Solo Joe European Tour! " all the way to the end where he will say he is above doing these types of gigs.

It’s that or he’s on a final warning type program with 2 months to go. I don’t know how cruise ships do with “disciplinary” action but I’m sure the casino catastrophe didn’t help. They make it VERY clear staff is NOT allowed in the casino to gamble. Only a dumb cow like Joe would think those rules don’t apply to him since he’s the “entertainment”

The main thing I take away from Joe's cruise ship odyssey is that I'd never want to go on one, as a worker or a passenger. I know it's almost exclusively old fucks that go on them but I still don't understand the appeal. Most old people don't want to end up in a retirement home but a cruise is essentially just a floating version of one with crappy entertainment. Why not just go on a proper vacation to somewhere good?

YMMV, but I like cruises because you have a lot more free time than you would have on a conventional vacation. Because you don't have to drive anywhere.

For instance, the last time I took a European vacation to a number of cities, there were days where I spent six hours driving to get to the city, and two hours actually SEEING the city.

But on a cruise, you don't have to drive anywhere. You just wake up in the morning and you're there, and that gives you a lot more time to enjoy your vacation, instead of driving to and from various places.

Looking at the itinerary this boat spends a few hours in a port then leaves and can spend 2 days at sea. The actual port isn't the nice bit of most towns so you need to get into that part. It's aimed at 60+ Brits but as almost every city is only 2/3/4 hours away people normally just go for a city break and spend 2/3 days in a city rather than a week or two kinda looking at a sea town.

Basically, I’m one of the “unicorns” that Princess (and other lines) are always on the lookout for. While younger musicians have the freedom and stamina to pull off a 4-9 month contract at this pace, they generally don’t know how to entertain 50-80 yr olds, and older! To be proficient at entertaining the principle demographic on most cruise ships, you really need to BE part the principle demographic. It’s gotta be in your DNA. Most guys in their 60’s (that I know) while perfectly qualified, would not be a good fit for the lifestyle. Therein lies the rub... I got this job because they knew after viewing my demo, that I’d be a great fit musically. That makes me one of the rare few “unicorns” that they’re looking for all the time.
This is total bullshit. The world is full of excellent musicians and entertainers who don't radiate low class degenerate energy like Joe.

It is actually very difficult to understand how he got the gig. You'd think they check people's social media profiles before hiring these days. Anger, extreme politics, posting under his daughters name, general retardation. OOOOH AAAAH. He's a walking red flag. Why the fuck did they hire this tactless boomer-american in faded worn-out SAMCRO hoodie?

Never could have gone overseas huh? Couldn't have spent some of that free money on an educational trip for your daughter? Joe has a wall of useless guitars he didn't have to own and a Barbie car and who knows what else he didn't need that could have funded multiple vacations anywhere he wanted.
Also, why not try this in his 50s at least? He'd be a seasoned pro at the cruise life at this point, but now he's nearing 70 and has to be a floating busker because he was too stupid to put money or time into anything of true value. I hope his daughter learns something good from this at least.

A unicorn that is breaking the contract stipulations of having booze in his cabin. Stole a whiskey glass from the bar to bring back to his room for booze. Cut up company property because he wanted a washcloth and now he is admitting to swiping a roll of duct tape to tape off his vents. This is jailhouse behavior. Very replaceable.

This is Joe’s version of “rock star” behavior on the road like how guys like Keith Moon or Joe Walsh trashed hotel rooms, etc.

The Work:

Basically, I perform in a high end restaurant.
Ah, yes. The hallmark of all "high end" restaurants is having an acoustic solo performer with a digitech looper, company-issued polo, and a Sons of Anarchy guitar strap belting out "Money for Nothing" and "Focus" by Hocus Pocus. Joe, your presence alone guarantees that the establishment is low end.

And all of this is hilarious. Joe acted haughty for years and like people were jealous of him. Like that smug face of him at that stinky poker table in AntH's basement; "you wish you could live like this" is conveyed by the look he's giving the camera. Now he's staring down the barrel of 70 fucking years old and by necessity has to take a job busking (and possibly scrubbing toilets if he's part of the crew proper) on a floating prison for like five months. Living in a poorly ventilated cell and drinking whiskeys that he's snuck into his room in water bottles. All while making less money than someone at Taco Bell. Hysterical and well-deserved. You're not a "unicorn" performer, Joe. You're just a lazy old piece of shit who never worked or saved any money so you're forced to embarrass yourself with this pathetic job.
