Joe seems like he should have gone to and stayed in California and been a "good hand" on writing teams. I've seen skits that he's written and they're consistently good. He's also a pretty hard worker, and high in agreeableness--rare traits among "creatives."
It's odd that he wanted to be some gritty, pavement pounding NYC comic. He just doesn't seem cut out for it.
Ironically, those guys very often try to get the work that DeRosa is actually suited for, but their irascible demeanor, laziness, substance abuse, etc. get in the way.
