Jim is missing the show after a domestic abuse incidence

It tickles the ribs that this forum is full of people who will write essays about a random O&A clip from 2009, but no one listens to Sam & Jim, even for the nostalgia. Like I said in a previous thread, the fact is the Sam and Jim show has been around for 7 years, so it's clearly "working."

I'm just genuinely :image_9248:perplexed about the makeup of the listener demographic.

People used to get furious with me on the Reddit days, but SiriusXM doesn't know who is listening.

Satellite radio is a one-way signal. SiriusXM doesn't have the faintest idea if a channel has ten listeners or 10,000 listeners. Jim and Sam figured out that the best way to keep a job was to become so milquetoast and inoffensive that nobody would even notice their existence. They're just flying on the radar and collecting paychecks until SiriusXM inevitably pulls the plug.

It says a lot about Cumia's self destructiveness, that all he had to do was STOP SPERGING OUT ON TWITTER and he'd still be working at SiriusXM today. Nobody was asking him to "go the extra mile" or "be more funny" all he had to do was:

* NOT beat his girlfriend
* show up to work
* NOT embarrass his employer

And he would've been fine.

Opie was always pretty savvy about this, and though he got a lot of shit for trying to control foundrymusic.com, you can see that what he was doing was largely to insure that everyone kept their jobs. Imagine if Steve had published something on Foundry that embarrassed XM? All of them would have been fired, so fired.

And foundry was basically a porn site.

An example the show doesn’t have listeners is Norton’s stand up gigs are in much smaller venues than when he was on ONA. He was at one small one near me and I got an email from the venue offering a two for one ticket special for him. Not a good sign, he’s not far away from doing fire departments like Bob Levy

How has he skated on this for so long?! It boggles the mind in this cancel culture of ours.

Essaypost incoming:

I used to cheat on girlfriends constantly, in my 20s and early 30s. Literally never had a single GF that I didn't fuck around on. After a particularly brutal breakup in my 30s, I said "fuck it", and I just started telling the women I met, straight up, that I wanted to date other women. And I never said that it was "temporary" or that things "might get serious in the futured." I 100% told them that I wanted to go out with them, but that I also had two girlfriends already, and I was never going to settle down, ever.

You would think that every single woman I ever met would hear two seconds of this spiel, and run for the hills. But it was completely the opposite. In fact, I think I'd argue that it's easier to get a girlfriend when you already have a girlfriend, than it is when you're single.

What wound up happening, is that all the women that I was dating began to compete with each other. Instead of just checking out of the situation and finding a man who was actually interested in the same things that they were, these women seemed to think that if they simply scared the other women off, eventually they'd emerge "victorious" and I would somehow change my tune on the whole "fucking other women" thing.

Maybe the most astonishing thing, was how the women I met were absolutely chomping at the bit to degrade themselves in any conceivable fashion. For instance:

  • One time I arrived home on a Friday, after traveling for work out-of-state. One of the three women I was dating, she'd set up a foursome for me. She basically delivered another girl on a silver platter for me. Wasn't any kind of special occasion or anything, it wasn't my idea, it was HERS. She basically said "meet me at this address" and I go there and she's lezzing out with some girl I never met. We'd been dating less than six weeks. She even filmed it for me. All her idea.
  • There was a girl who was trying to get me to leave my wife. She offered up herself and her friend, and basically said that I could live with and fuck them both if I left my wife for her. (I didn't take her up on that.)

This is the difference between Jim Norton and all the men who've been "canceled."

For instance, Russell Brand had sex with hundreds of women from 2000 to 2010. I am 10,000% convinced that many many of those women assumed that sex would actually lead to something. The irony here, is that Brand getting older and settling down is the very thing that got him canceled. These women don't believe that they were "sexually assaulted." These women had consensual sex with Brand, they believed that they would be the woman that he settled down with, and when he settled down with someone else he created an enemy for life.

If you're some dude who's slept with 20 or 30 women in your lifetime, there are probably only five or ten who really and truly want to ruin your life. But if that number is 200 or 300? That clock is ticking, especially if you were banging a bunch of them at the same time. (Which Brand was.)

For comparison's sake, the teenager that Jim Norton fucked, she probably doesn't even remember that it happened.

Also, this isn't some "theory" of mine. I've personally talked with more than a dozen women about the guys that they feel "wronged" by, and when you start digging into their story, eventually you learn that the resentment isn't about sex, the resentment is that they feel as if the man "owed them" something, because she wanted a long term commitment and he didn't. And a lot of these women carry this resentment around with them for DECADES. I know women who've been married for 10-20 years who continue to be angry because some guy that they had sex with in 1999 ended up becoming more successful than she ever imagined, had kids, got a nice house in the burbs and some shiny cars. It really and truly ruins their lives, because they not only carry that resentment forever, they also wind up hating their own husbands because they feel as if he didn't "live up to his potential."

Jim Norton will never be canceled, because he's never inspired that kind of passion in ANY woman. That's the road he chose, by paying for sex. It's like expecting the barista at Starbucks to think about you for the rest of her life; it's never going to happen. Jim's relationships are financial transactions.

Yeah, if someone at SiriusXM was actually paying attention, they could use some data by proxy to gauge their popularity:

  • How many people attend Jim's shows
  • How many views they get on YouTube
  • How many followers they have on social media

Arguably, this might be why Opie was buying Twitter followers. Management isn't going to invest the time to vet every Twitter follower.
