What’s funny about it he created this persona when Nerd / Geek culture had mainstream popularity. Marvel movies were actually making big money after long periods of trial and error, Star Wars prequels were being produced, adults were encouraged to be into “geek stuff”, comic cons were getting huge audiences and the sitcom “Big Bang Theory” was a ratings hit and doing well in syndication. Being his a mid west rube and always a at least a decade behind trends he thought he had something unique.
For example, the 3 iron man movies together made around 2.5 BILLION dollars gross. You think those movies were seen by people that don’t watch sports? Mentally he’s a dumb teenager that doesn’t realize normal people don’t build their lives - especially in their mid 30s - around a crafted persona.
