Oh 100%, the judge would let him off fairly easy if he showed up admitting he owes Quasi, expressing desire to start paying him, and agreeing to promptly submit to a debtor's exam, as you say.
Jail is essentially definite because, again as you say, we both know the answer as to whether Pat can mentally allow himself do that (and all while maintaining his temper).

It's gonna be fascinating seeing all that shit laid bare. While I think people might be a bit fanciful when it comes to the SFWA and Lynne bankrolling theories, there have to be some financial irregularities with these two. Rick is still a licensed insurance salesman but we know from his xeeting schedule that he's nearly always idle. His writing career is a joke and PBG never appeared profitable either. And we have ample documented evidence that both are incorrigible thriftless bums so it's not like they have any savings to speak of either.
Even given the cobvious destitution the couple are in, they have to have been getting money in to pay for the lolsuit and vacations which doesn't seem to be coming in through gainful employment Fuckery with PPP loans and credit cards seems a given, but I'm sure there's a lot more and I'm very interested in seeing how much deeper the rabbit hole goes.
They've somehow maintained payments on their mortgage, Pat bought a replacement $2k phone after destroying the evidence with his first one, they take vacations (even if they're low budget trips to low budget destinations). None of which really makes sense. The PPP money was like ~$35k between the two, I think, which isn't all that much money 3 years later.

just previous to that, all they said they had on file was the last 4 digits of his card no. If this was true they just spent $10k on not giving it out 4 (useless) digits.
SFWA have misused funds in a vanity lawsuit, given to a member who only just re-signed up to sfwa before the lawsuit. He had cancelled his membership some years before after not winning an award.
I'm sure SFWA members would like some concrete proof what management did with their membership dues.
It would also answer the question as to whether it was a loan or funding.
If its a loan, piggy owes SWFA more than he does quasi.

Pat would have owed taxes already on that gift, which I doubt he paid, which means he now owes that tax plus interest and penalties.

I'll add that Pat specifically told Josiah that he'd spent around $100k at that point, and that a "professional organisation" that he was a member of had bankrolled him.
Also, the SFWA's lawyer testified that Pat had been a member for a decade, even though Pat says he wasn't. That suggests the lawyer was lied to... which again goes to a cover-up.
