Now we're talking uncensored!

Slowly but surely every single person will come forward with their stories. He's got nothing to offer and nothing to bribe people with. The best he can hope for is nobody gives enough of a shit to mention him ever again.
It sounds pretty predictable so far.

"Was he a good boss?"

In that he never told us what to do and was pretty generous with dinners/gifts etc (please like me), absolutely.

In the sense that he ran the ship, provided direction and generally gave orders and a sense of leadership? No.

He's a people pleaser who hates confrontation. He should never have been in charge of anything, and he never really was. Hence Keith, Gavin etc. They're his "tops" in more senses than one.

Nana handed all responsibility to Gavin and ran off to cower with a beer because he didn't want to feel sad. Gavin then proceeded to fire the (reportedly) only competent employees of Compound Media in a callous manner, while still keeping Geno, Chrissie and Erock on the payroll.

I've been speculating this since the Reddit days: I think Gavin bankrolls Compound Media.

It's the only logical explanation for why:

  • Gavin was SO IRRITATED when Cumia tried to get Opie to invest in the network. The day that Opie stopped by, Gavin looked like he wanted to knock his teeth out.
  • The network can't possibly be profitable, and hasn't been for ages, if ever
If anyone wonders why Gavin would pour money into a failing network for years, it's pretty easy to see why. Dude loves his booze and drugs, and he's openly admitted to getting in hot water with his wife for doing them around his kids. Remember when he drove his car off the road?

Also, the dude is filthy rich. Vice was worth something like a billion dollars at one point. As one of the founders, the only way they can fire him is if they buy out his ownership stake.

I've worked at a bunch of startups and seen this happen a million times. The founders begin to hate each other, and then one of the founders just stops showing up to work, and then all of the stakeholders squabble over how much they'll have to pay one of the founders to go away. Sometimes it takes a year for them to reach an agreement. The deals are often kept secret, in order to avoid spooking new investors (like Disney.) So everyone is sworn to secrecy by an NDA, but word gets around the office...

Gavin quit/was forced out and bought out of vice in like 2008. It was nowhere near what it became billions dollars worth later. Gavin probably seethes about it laying in bed nightly. That anal plunger is not rich. At least not the level you seem to think he is.

You worked at a bunch of start ups but can't bother to Google when Gavin left vice.

You answered your own question here. Gavin was a dick when Opie showed up at Compound because he’s a raging, bitter cokehead. Don’t really need mo e explanation than that.

Interesting theory. I like it. The biggest hole in it is that Gavin (and LOS) being on the network was its peak, and Gavin really didn't need Nana's platform. Gavin probably offered a partnership early on, and Anthony the mincing cunt shot down the best opportunity he was ever going to get.

I hate both of them but Gavin's appearances on Ant's show were the best he did, save for the Greggshells episode.

His apartment building in Brooklyn is easily worth $10M+

Vice was valued at $1400M in 2013: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/vice-media-shane-smith-1235837714/

If Vice was worth even 25% that much in 2008, then Vice magazine had to pay Gavin approximately $116.67M in 2008, for him to go away. (There were three founders.)

$166.67M is a tremendous amount of money; Gavin could have poured two million into Compound Media without even missing it. It wouldn't be even 1.5% of his Vice payout. Dude is rich.

Most importantly: What other explanation is there for Compound Media? There ain't no way in Hell that the network was profitable. Cumia certainly didn't have two million to set on fire. He lost money when he sold his house on Long Island.

Seriously: Where else would Cumia get the money to run the network? The Discount DVD place? The Dick Pill place? The ten copies of his book he sold?

Gavin is Cumia's patron.

Oh I'm not saying that he put money into it to make money. I think he's just a rich dude who wanted a place to hangout.

Johnny Depp did the same thing. He bought the Viper Room 30+ years ago, and operated it at a loss. It was literally just a place for him and his friends to hang out. He'd probably still own it today, if it wasn't for his insane spending spree. Depp sold it for $80M a couple of years ago, it's being torn down and replaced with condos.

The Hacienda in the UK was the same idea. It was legendary. It also lost it's owner millions of dollars. If you were ever a New Order fan, their music profits basically bankrolled the nightclub. It was also demolished and replaced with condos.

Remember the movie "Boogie Nights?" A lot of that was a true story. The drug dealer in the story is based on Eddie Nash. Dirk Diggler is based on John Holmes. The club in the movie is based on a club that used to be in Hollywood. Nash really did own a nightclub, which he largely ran as a clubhouse that lost a lot of money. Holmes was also involved in a bunch of murders stemming from the drugs and porn connection. The building that the club was based in was HUGE. Big ol' chunk of change. If you've seen the Jimmy Kimmel Theatre, that's the same building.

Plenty of rich weirdos who buy a clubhouse. I love my wife, so I like hanging out with her. If I didn't, I would undoubtedly buy a warehouse, just to hang out with my hobbies and my friends. (OK I don't have any friends.)

Gavin isn't going to miss a few million dollars, it's chump change for him.

I know Gavin has explained several times he left with very little in comparison to the value of Vice in later years. He would act like it didn't bother him when it clearly did. I don't think it was into 8 figures, possibly mid 7 figures, but that's only a guess.

From my understanding, golden parachute is usually 10% equity stake so I bet that old fag barely broke $30 mil.

Gavin got like 10 mill for being forced out of Vice. The meteoric rise didn’t happen until those fags got rid of him. Cumia, by way of Keith, offered equity in CM to multiple people.
