I have Jordan rookie cards worth like 10% of this. Can we stop pretending that anyone gives a fuck about women’s basketball?

But perfect to us means nothing when it's under the grading asshole's microscope. "Oh, the lower left corner isn't exactly as sharp as others I've seen, and it's off-center by .5 of a millimeter. It's an 8.5 at best". And now the best Ebay offer you'll get might be several hundred bucks. Ungraded, though, it'd be significantly less than that. The hardcore collectors who are in the market for mint condition cards want graded examples, and the dealers cater to this.

And having dealt with card, coin, comic book and record collectors in the past, I can say with total confidence that sports card dealers are almost invariably gigantic assholes who'll do whatever it takes to rob you blind at any opportunity. "Oh, what's that? A Honus Wagner rookie? Meh. I have twelve of 'em I can't move as it is. I'll give you fifty bucks for it". Coin guys are equally shitty, too.
And trust me, I get it. You’re not wrong at all. I have a Vick rookie card that’s all bent to shit haha.

He bought me an unopened box full of packs of football cards from the year when I was born and as a goof I looked them up and it was going for $90. There’s really no money in sports cards.

Just a few months ago I sold an unopened set of Topps 1984 NFL cards, still in the shrink wrap. Marino, Elway, Lott, LT and etc. $130. And it was on sale for months before anyone bit, I had to lower the price several times to move it. And that's a desirable set. I had an unopened 1990 set that fetched a cool $30. The only way to really make money at it is to lowball everyone, then take the risk and get the cards graded, and hope you hit the grading jackpot.

You definitely know way more than I do. I just always collected cards since I was a kid. Really didn’t have anything else to spend money on when I was that young. I always understood that it wasn’t going to pay dividends haha.
